Fifth game in a row the offense has had the ball in great field position with a chance to win or tie. They failed every time, 0-5. Today they were not satisfied with failing they had to give the game away on top of it.

I will not be wasting my money watching whatever this is called. $500 for two season tickets and $20 to pay for parking at every home game?! I’ve seen high school football teams that would slaughter this team right here.
If you have season tickets you have a parking pass so don’t have to pay to park so you must not have season tix?
Yea that’s not true at all? Have you ever been to a game before?
For the last 50 years, never had to pay to park including now. Why are you paying to park if you have season tickets?

Well, we’ve had season tickets for years ourselves and have never once been automatically given a parking pass. Furman’s own website clearly states that parking passes are tied to donations to the Athletics Fund, not simply purchasing season tickets. If you’ve managed to park for free for 50 years, that’s great! But that doesn’t mean everyone with season tickets gets a parking pass. Those are two completely different things. I’m not sure why that’s so hard to understand.

You can pay the minimum $50 to Athletic Fund and with season tickets you get free parking .

I stand corrected. :)

Ugly football on both sides. Samford’s offense was slightly more competent than ours and still needed +3 turnovers to score 13 points.

Defense played well, but the offense again put them in just an unwinnable spot. Not only can we not score, our offense puts our pretty good defense in compromising positions. It’s somehow worse than just being unproductive.

There's an old saying: Offense sells the tickets, Defense wins the games.

Well, our D certainly plays well enough to win. But our Offense couldn't sell Nookie to a Boatload of Sailors.

This is what I can't understand about college offenses in 2026.

The goal of the zone blocking scheme is to basically solve the math problem - there are more tacklers than you have guys available to block them. So, you design plays to leave guys unblocked and try to otherwise neutralize them.

Here's Samford on a 3rd and goal. They've got all sorts of beef up front with TEs, extra lineman, etc.

The inside zone scheme leaves the end man on the line of scrimmage unblocked. That happens to be Joshua Stoneking. Samford throws all that muscle to the right side of their line, but the running back never even gets to the line because THEY DON"T BLOCK THE SOCON'S TOP DEFENSIVE LINEMAN.

Dudes get paid a lot of money to call college offenses. They are trying to blast the ball up the middle and just scheme it up so the most feared defender in the Southern Conference just isn't blocked. He, predictably, runs in and tackles the running back for a loss.

I guess I'm just too dumb to understand what they are trying to do. This isn't to pick on Samford. I see this all over college football.

I remember watching that play and thinking "what did they do that for?"

My guess is one of three things:
1-Samford expected their RB to hit the hole long before Furman's DE could get to the backfield
2-Samfords LT (or Left End?) blew his assignment - I see Furman's DT had two guys blocking him.
3-Samford's OC had a large mass of fecal material lodged inside his cranial cavity such that it wholly replaced the fore- and mid-brain, leaving only the cerebellum and brain stem; so like Mike the Headless Chicken the Samford OC was up there in the booth calling plays and no one on the sidelines realized their entire football program was being run by a medulla oblongata and a liver full of gin sugars.

Frankly, I've never understood half of the offensive schemes out there. They seem to rely on the Defense doing what is expected and be in a position as expected. (I'm thinking more of the line than backfield.) Maybe I'm just bad at watching film. To me, once the ball is snapped, it all looks like one of those vintage 1960s electric vibrating Football Game toys.
