Now Cooper Flagg is gone. CU is very good but they are even harder to beat with the perrenial horseshoe up their butt.
Clemson has already proven they can beat Duke with Flagg playing.
Yep played by far his worst game of the year, i.e: horseshoe up their butt. With that said CU is very good.
Come on aPaladin, just admit Clemson beat Duke on a night that Duke played it’s A game. Cooper finished with 18 points, which just happens to be his season average per game.
Well if yiou watch the game and Duke all year it was not Duke’s A game, not even close. Duke shot 6% below their average and Flagg shot 15% below his average. Duke gives up 61 ppg, CU scored 78.

Went back and watched the play several times when we were up 83-81 and pjay drove the lane. Didn’t really look like much of a foul to me. The difference the last 2 mins was their defense was really good and ours wasn’t.

it was probably not a "foul" but 2 plays later Trip has a layup that is bodied up a little by Anderson and he gets the call. It was close but in some ref circles that does not get called especially since it was a circus shot.

On the 3 that PJ missed everything if you look at slo mo you can just see the defenders had touch PJ in the forearm. Maybe why the shot was off, PJ doesnt miss that badly. He didnt react. Maybe he should have gone down

The game IMHO came down to the 3 hit by Bailey right after the PJ layup. There was confusion on the coverage and he was left wide open in the same spot he had hit before. Bailey misses that and Dins probably win

Still hurts....

On the Virginia Sabre Message Board last night they were still ruminating and hand wringing about Furman's win over Virginia. Furman's win over Virginia in 2023 will live forever. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The basketball gods were with Furman THAT day.

I watched the replay and the thing that stands out is Woffy shot the ball way better than they know how to shoot it. The Baileys and Sivills hit more shots than they usually make.

Another thing was they got the call on two balls that went out of bounds that the replays showed it was off them. Even the announcers said it should have been Furman's ball.

With that being said we still had an 83-79 lead with 2:34 left. Woffy turns it over again. IMHO we should not have taken a 3, even though PJ had a pretty good look. Should have run the shot clock down to about 10 sec, then cleared out and let PJ drive.

Tripp comes down and penetrates, which we should not have let him do, and passes off to Filiwich for an easy layup. Bowser should have stayed on Fili and not helped. Should have made Tripp make a shot. Bad D.

83-81. PJ does the right thing and drives. But he only took 9 sec off the clock. Difficult shot and there was maybe no foul but I guarantee you Woffy gets that call.

They rebound and only take 8 sec to score. Tripp drives all the way to the baseline and passes back out to Sivills for 3. I don't know who was supposed to be covering Sivills but it didn't get done. Real Bad D.

83-84. We run the shot clock all the way down and PJ shoots an airball. Woffy good D but Sad Din says PJ was nicked on the forearm.

Tripp drives, Anderson bodies up, and Tripp throws up a prayer and gets the call. I watched that sequence 4 times and I have yet to see any contact.

83-86 with 40 sec. Anderson misses a tough 3 but he can make that shot. Bowser gets the rebound, flips it to PJ and he misses a contested shot and we foul immediately.

83-88 with 18 sec, House misses a long 3, and that was it. They only made 2 field goals the last 2 minutes. Their last 8 points came from the FT line. We missed 6 straight shots.

That one hurts. And I feel bad for our seniors. Furman played a great game and Woffy did too. Everything they did the last 2 minutes went right and everything we did went wrong. We won so many close games just like this one all year.

I don't think Woffy was tougher than we were, just luckier.

It was awesome and one we will never forget. I said many timrs how thankful I was for 2023 and it is now the new 1980. Hopefully those that will live long enough won’t have to wait 43 for another.

FurmAlum-we should know by now WC always plays better against FU than they actually are, both football and basketball. Good recap as painful as it was to read. Hindsight is 20/20 but we probably should have called a timeout after the WC turnover and up 4. At that point it looked like we started worrying about the clock instead of gettng a good shot resulting in pjay having to throw up a prayer to avoid the sc violation. The defense totally broke down the last 2 minutes. Made it way too easy for WC. Even the best teams have meltdowns. Last night Kentucky had an 11 point lead with 1:40 to go and was behind with 6 seconds to go. Tonight Louisville blew a 15 pont lead against CU and only won because the refs swallowed their whistles, imagine that!
