I am pulling for him to get the job. I like him and respect him.

If he doesn't get it, he has a job waiting on him at Va Tech, where he would get a nice bump in pay.

But Jay McCauley started at Wofford with Mike Young before coming to Furman.. :?

He actually started at G-Webb, so your point?? :? 4 seasons at Furman puts him on the Furman coaching tree nonetheless ;)

So looks like Furman had the Colorado St head coach, Furman head coach and Wofford head coach all on the same staff for 4 years if Woff caries through with this

Coach Young quoted as saying he hopes Jay will be next head coach at Wofford. Interesting article on Young’s leaving Wofford.

It would have been interesting to have had an article like this when Niko left.
So true. We unfortunately don't have someone at the local paper that covers Furman like Shanesy covers Wofford, for whatever reason. Scott Keeler with the Furman Sports Report does a great job and gets a lot of info that normally wouldn't have seen the light of day in the Gville News, but not sure if he was in that role yet when NM left.

"Interesting", yes; certainly not as hagiographic. Remember FU had a legitimate shot at the 2017 CIT championship when Niko jumped ship just before the semi-finals; MY saw the season through. And no one's second-guessing MY's move to Va Tech, while head-scratching continues to this day regarding NM's interim step to Drake.

How many of you had to look up that word, "hagiographic"?
Be honest.

My hand is raised.
No need to look it up - just use that Furman liberal arts education, as Coach Billy Blaze does in the clip below...and break it down...

Hag = a witch, especially one in the form of an ugly old woman
i-o = as in e-i, e-i, e-i-o = like a pig or a cow, etc.
graphic = giving a vivid picture with explicit detail

So...hagiographic = a vivid, explicitly detailed picture of a pig- or cow-like ugly old woman.

When FUBeAR thinks of Wofford, he thinks of this image.

I was disappointed when Niko left, but i am not left scratching my head over it. So, the reason an article would have been interesting is so we would not have to wonder how it all played out. I have picked up things here and there which explains enough for me not to be scratching my head.

The REAL head scratcher is when Niko went to CSU after only one year. Whoa. Left them like a hot potato. And if I was a Drake fan (which I was for one season....), then I would not have been happy. At all.

I'm almost positive this story was posted at the time it happened, but it's incredibly transparent doesn't paint NM in the best light.

Just throwing this out there.

Which option would you choose if you were JM?

Option A: Stay at WC and be head coach. You are familiar with the team, facilities, alumni/boosters, administration, conference, etc. You know the continuity will help your transition to HC and you might have a longer leash if things get rocky. There's not much downside but the opportunity of Option B may never come again.

Option B: Go with MY to VPI. It's big boy basketball with big boy talent, facilities, amenities and everything else. You've made it to the ACC but there are high expectations and you could be gone in a year and asst coaching at Kennesaw St or some other backwater. But if you make it, the sky's the limit.

The salaries are equal. What do you choose?

No guarantee that option A will come again either, I would take head position at Woff, just never know who or when someone will be willing to give you that shot at being the lead man again if ever. Easier to get it now at a school that you have already been an assistant at as opposed to being more on the open market interviewing against all comers were he to try and land a head job after being at V. Tech for a stint as an assistant. I think the likelihood of consistent success is more slanted in favor of Woff as a program as well, tougher gig at V. Tech for that staff to maintain a winner IMO.

Thinking back on it Jay McCauley was actually 4th in command on that Furman staff, Niko then Bob Richey who replaced him, and Dwight Perry was given the head assistant role that's why McCauley left to get more pay as the Wofford head assistant instead of being #3 at Furman.
I wonder if that would factor into Wofford's decision at all, knowing they would be taking FU's #3 coach
