This WCU team is starting to remind me of 1983. We tied them at the Wee in the regular season. I'll not mention the semifinal game.
I have NO PROBLEM with WCU shooting up the scale. Many above them lost and they did what very few teams do.. lay a whooping on Charleston Southern. It seems most teams (us included) escape CSU.
As an aside, I think the 5 teams you list here are all scary. I am glad Mercer is in the rearview mirror. Western especially... but Chatt and Samford are very capable of beating any SoCon team.
Many are down on Samford.. and I get it but the 0-2 SoCon start ran into a better than expected WCU team and was a funny game vs a top tier UTC. Samford ran for over 5 ypc vs UTC/ UTC could only muster 2.9 ypc. So Samford was winning the man-up run the ball game. It is just that Samford had a -3 turnover ratio... No one wins with that. Example, UTC ran 36 times and never had a run over 12 yards. Kind of a wonky game. UTC ran 36 times for a whopping 106 yards. Not good. Samford ran 33 times for 174 yards. Much better and what Furman goes for. RUN then play action.

The 2023 Charleston Southern team (so far) doesn’t look like they’re going to challenge many teams. They escaped North Greenville week 1, narrowly winning 13-10. Blown out by Clemson 66-17 week 2. Lost to a suspect (maybe overrated) William & Mary team 15-7 week 3. Western ran it up on them 77-21 this past weekend. BTW, I watched the Chatt/Samford 2nd Half and thought the Chatt QB looked pretty good. Chase Artopoeus was at UCLA 2019-2022.
