This has to do w Furman football because it was in a thread yesterday about UTC and I slept on it (something I should do more often ! )...

Someone posted a player of ours yesterday had a soul-CRUSHING day yesterday. (no one commented on this extreme hyperbole surprisingly). This may seem a little odd but it is because I don't now have the post to quote. Sorry about that part.. out of my control. It was here yesterday but the thread (probably rightfully so :D ) is now gone...

We need perspective. Getting benched or playing a different position in what is, in the end, a GAME is HARDLY near "soul-crushing". PLEASE. Here is soul-crushing: I found out two relatives of mine had cancer in same year. Honestly, that may not even qualify as soul-crushing. My friend had two of their 5 children die. THAT IS SOUL CRUSHING. Football is a GAME people. I wish that thread were still around as I slept on it and wanted to quote that post.

You compare what the issues I posted about (we have all had them in real life) to getting a full D1 free ride to play for a great school like a Furman and free 200K education and then call it "Soul Crushing" just because you are on the sideline some? Those items I spoke of both happened. One (friend 2 children passing away prior to age 22 ) happened recently.

Lets keep perspective - nothing at Furman UTC was 'soul-crushing'. we are so LUCKY to live in a world that we have time for what is a game.

^^ are you talking about the thread you started, that was thankfully removed?
If you're are trying to start this up again - please stop from taking us down this path again with just a little different window dressing.

I'll play/since you are referring to my comment.

I've never been a student athlete but I do remember what it was like to be a student at Furman. Just because I did my best does not always mean I got the best grades. If I did particularly bad on an exam that was within my major at that time it seemed like the end of the world and could have life long implications (and I wasn't wrong).

Many of Furman's players eat and breath what they do. They take pride in what they do. They take what they do seriously and we want them to. I may have never been an athlete but I've seen players reactions come Monday when they thought they lost because they had been out coached. Right now football might seem like the biggest thing in the world to them and frankly, as fans, that is in our best interest.

So yeah, imagine you are 19 and a forum of people are commenting on you getting dumped, getting a D on exam, etc. even if indirectly. That might be life but in real time that st*t hurts.

I hear ya gman.. and that's part of the issue. You are right, I can laugh at myself. I need a couple more hobbies !

Fine, , ill leave it at this.

1) THIS post was not window dressing to restart the other thread. I really slept on it and just kept coming back to the "SOUL-CRUSHING" thing.. many of you that know me personally as a friend know I have Epilepsy / and have had Over 2000 small seizures and 3 GRAND MAL seizures and that was during HS and college and into my 30s.. and they spoke with me frankly about having a tumor and dying. I am not calling attention to myself. I tried to use my friend and his children as an example and hold off on this. Its this kind of thing I kept coming back to as I reflected on that term which sounded like Chernobyl or something...

PLEASE its a game - I love that the kids care (you all know I care!) but it ain't really soul crushing. If anything of FU-UTC football is soul crushing you are livin' the dream. And many of us are. the fact we are debating football says we are so fortunate and live in a great place and time.. (no need to get political on me for the last statement)

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
