I think that next year we CAN get to 3 wins, perhaps Presbyterian, NCA&TSU, & VMI seeming to be reasonably good possibilities.
A loss against any of those 3 will require the upset win over someone else in order to get to 3 wins in 2025.
We do have an interesting schedule next year, but it is not an easy one.
I do not want CCH to be “on a hot seat”, but without at least 3 wins in 2025, he may be “on a hot seat”.
No he would need three maybe even 4 consecutive terrible seasons to be on the hot seat.

We’ll see how it works out, but that may be our future roll. Sort of like minor leagues. You play your young kids and hope they do well, but if they play too well & learn too much, poof, they may be off to greener pastures. And now the flow in the other direction (think Ingle Martin) is shutoff.

I’ve just come to accept that college football is completely different now and every year is going to be unpredictable. There are no reliable rosters year to year. My coping mechanism has been to stop caring much. Not intentional, but this year I suddenly don’t care much about any of it.
My relative said the same thing. It is hard to care if we are to become the minor leagues. I am caring as much as I can but this whole NIL and transfer instantly thing SUCKS. So far, it seems to be hitting basketball more than football... Maybe FCS football can sustain? I mean, honestly, I have proposed it should hit the best teams (SDSU and NDSU) the most - Dallas Goedert and Carson Wentz should leave now. Maybe.. maybe Furman is positioned to do ok by being ranked 15th without many NFL guys. Surely SDSU and NDSU will get cherry-picked?

Am I missing something here? Won't Minnesota or Wisconsin or Nebraska come and cherry-pick the best Dakota players??? And shouldn't Montana / MSU players get NIL money from Boise State or UW or Oregon , Oregon State?

Shouldn't that happen to diminish the Dakotas and Montanas?
I think it is more likely that the Minnesotas/Wisconsins/Nebraskas of the world will poach good SEC and ACC players who aren't seeing the field.

Same thing with the big Western programs you mentioned at the end. Also NDSU and Montana's have a good enough reputation at this point to hold onto players, especially they mainly recruit regionally, which I am pretty sure they do.

PaladinGooner, you are saying that Hendrix getting to a record 4 wins total out of 26 games total (last game of 2023 through first game of 2026) would definitely not have CCH on hot seat.
If we do not win at least once more this year (I doubt we will) or at least 3 games next year, we will be 4-22 (4 wins out of 26 games) he will be on hot seat.
(Compared to the above hypothetical record of 4-22 in a span of 26 games, Furman's actual record in the previous span of 26 actual games WAS 20-6 [22-6 actual record when you make it 28 consecutive actual games by adding in the final 2 games of 2021 season].)
Again, I’m not saying that I want him on hot seat - I am just saying I think he very possibly may be already there when/if he gets to 4-21, Furman’s win over Tennessee Volunteers being very doubtful (understatement) in my opinion.
Of course, he could end up winning SoCon in 2026, and be COTY; but that would be after having been on a seat that may have been hot.
SEE MY POST IN THIS THREAD, 8:11 am on 11/3/2024. I have NO problem with letting CCH build it back even very slowly, year- by-year and until his chosen retirement, provided that actual steady progress is evident year-by-year.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
