Cade freeman has not attended any of the major camps so no ranking to compare. He's a big kid with nice technique but does not appear to have a big leg.

Henry Bishop looks pretty good. Ranked #101 by Chris Sailer and a 4.5 star ranking. There are 132 4.5star ranked kickers and he's the 31st one so he's at the top end of the class. Good ball off the ground, also good punting abilities, strong leg but his kickoffs need a lot of work. I hope we get this kid. A ton of potential to be another solid kicker for us. I see where Samford has also offered him.

Question for Aqualung: Is there the potential for improvement during the season for a kicker when no coach on staff is a former kicker, or is much of the improvement done in the offseason with kicking specialists? I really hope we don't lose a game next year because we lost GA.

fufanatic, yes there is a ton of opportunity to improve in the off-season especially for a kid this young in his career coming out of HS. Some bloom a bit later than others. Both these recruits (as all kickers these days that are college material) have there own kicking coach that they work with year round. Makes no difference that no coach on staff is a former kicker. Virtually no school at any level enjoys that luxury (except UGA last couple of years when KB was back as a GA). Tough for us to lose Grayson and will be missed big time.

I generally tell whomever will listen that wrestlers are the best overall athletes in sports.

Dimaggio wins state title in the 220 class. That's his second state championship ring in two seasons his senior year.

I'm not convinced they are the best athletes, surely debatable, but there is no doubt in my mind that wrestlers are the toughest. Glad Evan is a Paladin.

So . . . is EC going to be our K next year? How many kickers do we have coming in?

Looks like he's kicking off a tee. I'm unbelievably concerned about this spot for next year. I think we will just have to lower our expectations because it won't be GA good even if one of these guys is solid.

I'm not overly worried about it. Of course, I'd love to have Atkins for another year.

Still, over the last several decades, it not as though Furman routinely struggles to find kickers. You can run a pretty consistent thread from present day until about 1995 where Furman pumped out one quality kicker after another - Atkins, Hollingsworth, Early, Short, Beckler, Marshall, Wells, Richter, etc.

Not saying that's a trend that will always continue, but this is pretty common place for us - one guy handles kicking/punting duties for 3 or 4 years and gives way to next man up.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
