It was always likely that we'd be paired with one of the Montana teams. Going to Montana is the price of losing to Wofford.

On a positive note, if we survive Washington Grizzly, there's at least a half decent shot that North Dakota State would beat South Dakota and we'd be hosting the Bison.

The Idaho/Southern Ill game is currently on espn2. If Idaho wins the four games next week will be in Montana, Idaho and 2 in South Dakota.

The Air Raid offense coaches had the idea that they wanted to create as much space on the field as possible. Forces a defense to spread themselves out further and create more space.

Other programs do the opposite. They want to "play in a phone booth" as Hendrix calls it. Linemen's splits are tight forcing the defense to play in a smaller space.

Sometimes Teams that really like to run the Football AND have elitely athletic OLmen will split out the Defense to create space for inside runs - because the OL can out-athlete the opponents’ DL and/or to create longer pursuit ‘runs’ for backside Defenders on wide plays away. Just don’t see this much anymore because there just aren’t that many elitely athletic OLmen on the planet. We are a dying breed.

I noticed it, didn’t know the terminology… but there’s gotta be a trade-off here for a defense to exploit, right? I mean, a wide open gap for a defender to waltz into the backfield, even to the slowest mind, doesn’t seem all that good for protecting the qb, yeah??

So, tighter splits for pass play and tighter playside on wider plays. Just as WR splits are designed to gain some advantage, so are or can be OL splits - if a Team has elitely athletic OLmen.

I'd say most SoCon Elite backs are over 200 pounds except for Reid at WCU.

Our offensive backfield including Huff will be a different matchup for Montana.
Montana State does have a very good rushing attack, who 2 quarterbacks that rush the ball for comparison.
After a glance, I don't see a comparable running attack (size-wise) in the Big Sky comparable to Furman.
