Well, got what it's worth -- and I don't think it's worth much -- I prefer Paladins and try not to use "Dins" much if at all. As an old newspaper guy, it's a "headline word" like "Nats" once was for Senators, "Tribe" for Indians, "Bucs" for Pirates.
Closest equivalents now, I think, are "Dores" for Vanderbilt and "Lopes" for GCU (Antelopes). -- MD

If a team has a 3 syllable mascot name like Paladins, Mountaineers, Commodores or Volunteers, it's more accepable to shorten the mascot name to Dins', Neers', Dores' or Vols. I dissagree with for example, the Loyola of Chicago Ramblers (2 syllable mascot) using Blers' as they do on the baseline of their basketball court. Carry on.

As far as the name goes, I’d be good with two uniform versions - one with Paladins and one with Dins. Alternate. I’m. Not a huge fan of Dins though. Just trying to find a happy medium.

‘Noles for Seminoles
‘Canes for Hurricanes
‘Terps for Terrapins
‘Neers for Mountaineera

Tons of examples

Definition of a din:
“a loud chaotic pointless noise”
alternatively
“a stupid person.
Dins for Furman is like “tried to keep up, or tried to do something, but couldn’t.”
“Tried but couldn’t.”
Dins.
Beat UNT and keep Richey as our coach, then I’ll shut up about Dins- but I still won’t call us Dins.

Niners
Knicks
Horns
Cocks
DAWGS
Cats
Bucs
...
Pals
and
Dins
both would be about equally bad.
Pals might be slightly better.
Or “MAN” as in Fur - MAN.
No. Just stick with Paladins, or in honor of last September’s Helene that cancelled the Samford game and did serious destruction and death and suffering, etc., beyond just that game cancellation. we could go back to being Hurricanes; and Canes would be OK.
Or do like Auburn and have more than one team nickname. Paladins and Hurricanes.
(That also would become new marketing ploy. Sell more team merch. A few more NIL dollars. Additional publicity.)

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
