Didn’t realize all of WC starters are seniors and they scored all but 14 of their points. They will have to hit the portal hard for next year. Of course we started 3 seniors. Our 2 returning starters averaged 14 points so both will have some work to do.

Hoopla, I agree about the REFS' role in the last 1:40 of the game.
The REFS for the entire game let Wofford bang and push into the Paladin defender game as a whole (inside). These weren't called either way. Then, under 2 minutes, Wofford's guards drove to the basket. Our defenders, as they should, bodied up on the Wofford player. They called a foul on Furman every single time. At least two of those times, the Wofford player moved into a standing still Furman player and still got the call (Johnston's foul really stood out as a huh).

On our end, as we drove to the basketball, Wofford was just a physical, IMO more so using a lot of hands on any Furman player slashing to the basket - no calls.

I have a theory - I was coached that the physical team gets the calls late. Furman doesn't bang into the defender like Wofford does - they were rewarded for this in the closing minutes. Furman slashed more to the basket when Wofford late was given the benefit of the no-call unless it was blatantly obvious.

The last thing I will say about the no calls: Ben took a wicked shot (no call), and Furman's trainer had to repeatedly work on Ben's nose during the timeouts to stop the bleeding. Wofford's goon also took a shot at PJ's head late as PJ was trying to break to get outside to catch a pass - the refs were blind to it.

For what it's worth, my thoughts on the future between these teams, near and far.
Furman's recent recruiting has raised the bar athletically. If we maintain player retention for at least two years, this incoming class will be a major headache for opponents. We beat out Wofford on two of our incoming players: a 6-4 guard and a 6-9 power forward. I want to see Wofford and Samford's incoming 5-10, 5-11 guards handle, Wilkins (6-5) and Franklin (6-4) in space.

Done with you
Check the PM. I expect more from you. I bet. I won. I PAID in hopes of Furman winning. Did you? If not, your not the fan I am

Congrats on winning the bet. So now donate it to the FU Athletics department or Karma will prevail.
Choir Boy, hope you are doing well. I need to do that. I have proposed that myself more than once. IE, MY WAY COULD PROFIT FURMAN .. just standing there and going "yay, yay" doesn't do a lot. Though we do need more fans and crowd atmosphere - esp at the Football games.

generally true. I watch a lot of ACC and SEC ball. This generally seems to be true. We are a little finesse with all the threes. Could use a little more Grit and physicality.

Congrats to Woffy, enjoy your brief few minutes in the light....

Woffy will most likely get killed in the NCAA's as a 15 or 16 seed, shoot a few granny free throw shots, and embarrass the SoCon..... lol
Not me. I will be pulling for Wofford to win the whole thing. I have nothing but respect for Coach Perry and the Wofford basketball program. We need for the SoCon representative to do well. Go Terriers.

They will get killed and end the season 19-16 ;)
But, they will still be SoCon champs and go to the Big Dance.
And they will get a lot of good and long-useful publicity as the small school in the Dance for the 6th time in 16 years.
A lot of Furman fans would have gladly spent a lot of money to travel to wherever to support Furman in the first round. The best alternative I can suggest now is that everyone who would have done that now immediately should send a $500+ extra donation to support Furman athletics or at least to support Furman Men’s Basketball. And then another $200+ on top of that in honor of Furman’s 200th year. Note: Not saying all of us on UFFP could afford that - just saying it to specifically those who know they would have gone.
agree, the PR just to be on the Bracket is HUGE. I had so many people who know me as a huge Furman fan come up after the UVA win. One thing FUHoopla is right about is basketball is just a bigger deal for the school in general... and this coming from me, a lifelong Football fan. But people love that bracket (me too ;) ) - just to be on there is HUGE

gofurman, I speculate reactions on the board from Paul and others to your Championship game posts were driven at least partly by the way you served them up.
furmandad, I agree!! I should have tempered my post. I should have. though I still maintain 92 points is just ridiculous. AND PaulC should have tempered his reaction. BOTH statements can be true at the same time. PaulC and I have traded PMs for 15 years. As sincere friends. For him to let ONE BASKETBALL GAME say he will block me... well, that is just weak. You don't see me getting angry over a SPORTS GAME and blocking people here. I might get frustrated but I don't "BLOCK" people.

"Sports is a way to see something as important which is not" - it's a game. I LIVE FOR FURMAN football. but I am not going to block people over a disagreement. He could have just said "agree to disagree".

Real Question - if any SoCon team wins a game in the tourney (Furman over UVA etc) does the whole conference get some revenue sharing? Or just that winning team?

I have heard it on good authority that there is some money in winning ANY game so some really bad teams actually want those 16/16 play-in games as that allows the best chance for them to win a game and get money. Two people recently told me that. I was unaware... being rewarded for being worse...

The money is divided into units paid out over a period of 6 years to each conference. A unit per game for 2025 is $2 million. The SoCon divides that money up equally among its members, which means the SoCon champ gets no more money than the rest of the teams. Two years ago, the payout was about $1.8 million per unit. When we played 2 games, the SoCon got $3.6 million, which was divided among its members over a period of 6 years. This is a good read on how the NCAA handles the money. https://www.sportico.com/leagues/colleg ... 234772616/

thanks, sounds like a WIN in the tourney adds more money to ALL the teams in the SoCon?

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
