The game was decided by the refs essentially.

With 1:30 left to play and Furman up by 2 PJ Smith drives for a layup and then a shooting foul goes uncalled.

Fast forward to 40 seconds left with Woffy now up by 1 and Tripp does the exact same drive for Woffy with the exact same contact that PJ Smith did not get the call on just 1 minute before, but Tripp gets a foul call and 2 free throws.

Refs hand Woffy the win and that's really all there was to it, refs decided who wins what was a great game, that's sports for you.

Congrats to Woffy, enjoy your brief few minutes in the light....

Woffy will most likely get killed in the NCAA's as a 15 or 16 seed, shoot a few granny free throw shots, and embarrass the SoCon..... lol

Not me. I will be pulling for Wofford to win the whole thing. I have nothing but respect for Coach Perry and the Wofford basketball program. We need for the SoCon representative to do well. Go Terriers.

A lot of feelings this morning as I reflect on the season, the tourament, and THAT GAME...

The GAME- incredible atmosphere deserving of that rivalry. Looking forward to having that at Timmons next year. Furman fans weren't particularly nice to Woffy, but drunk Wofford section was unnecessarily profane. That said, the crowd being into it certainly can fuel your team and I hope FU fans continue to show up to Asheville as well as home.
To me, Wofford looked a little more fresh and their senior-heavy team showed confidence and played their game all night. Their bench contributed and allowed Filewich, Tripp, and the Baileys to rest up.

To me, Furman has only a handful of players that play strong Defense AND can score. It's easy to have the wrong balance of guys out there to where the other team goes on a run or we can't consistently make buckets. If any shooters have cold nights, there aren't many good alternatives. There is a combination of 3-4 players that is not particularly consistent on either O or D, that when they are out there together, we collapse every time. When we got into foul trouble, we were forced to put some of those combos out there and nobody stepped up to fill the void. CBR is balancing a lot of things in a game like that, and little things like one player being cold, making mental mistakes, or committing unnecissary fouls can make it really tough to find that sweet spot. Kudos to C. Johnston on strong contribution from bench.

The SEASON: We weren't supposed to be anything special, but we were eactly that. An incredible hot start, road warrior mentality, and despite a cold January spell, CBR coached his butt off and created a cohesive team that showed poise, never gave up, and represented FU culture to the last. I loved watching this team play. Will miss watching PJay, Nick, and Garrett, but the future is bright.

FU all the time
Thank you for this perspective. Its the only one that has helped SD finally look up from the dark dark abyss.

You are right.. in hidnsight this team overacheived by alot.Getting to the SoCon finals might as well been getting to the Dance. They lost important players, changed staff, lost a key transfer and basically played away all year. Not to mention practicing in different venues.

''what could have been" will hurt for some time but it was an entertaining season with lots of positives. 1000x better than last years under-performing team. SD hopes there is a post season game out there somewhere

But, they will still be SoCon champs and go to the Big Dance.

Really liked the way Johnston stepped up the last 2 games. 21 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes. Unfortunately got nothing from the rest of the bench the last 2 games. 4 free throws from House Saturday, and zero total last night.

Now that some of the vitriol has dissipated, I think cooler heads are prevailing. We agree that this team outperformed any preseason expectation. I would also say the same is true for mid season expectations when we hit a lull and had to regroup. We all knew this game was a toss up if both teams played well; especially in the SoCon where any team can win on a given night. CBR, his associates, and the players deserve our support and respect, regardless of how badly we all hate losing to our rival. Just think, if we can go this far with a roster that was supposed to finish way back in the pack, how much more can we do with a roster that it talented, developed, and completely bought into Furman culture? I think the sky is the limit and I for one choose positivity over pessimism.

And they will get a lot of good and long-useful publicity as the small school in the Dance for the 6th time in 16 years.
A lot of Furman fans would have gladly spent a lot of money to travel to wherever to support Furman in the first round. The best alternative I can suggest now is that everyone who would have done that now immediately should send a $500+ extra donation to support Furman athletics or at least to support Furman Men’s Basketball. And then another $200+ on top of that in honor of Furman’s 200th year. Note: Not saying all of us on UFFP could afford that - just saying it to specifically those who know they would have gone.
