Those rascally Terriers, what have they gotten themselves mixed up in now?

Not much really. A $5k fine and loss of weekly practice time.

But these kids need all the time they can get for that grinding Wofford course work.
Film study, walkthroughs, AND workouts! Oh my!!

What does exactly a 1-yr probation mean? And why is the NCAA punishing Wofford anyway? The players had nothing to do with what was going on…Here again the NCAA is being ridiculous.

Well, the only 'punishment' that applies towards the players here is more free time

Back in the day our fall preseason basketball practices lasted at least 2, sometimes 2 1/2 hours. And then at the end we had to run sprints until a lot of people puked. Nobody including parents ever complained (that I know of).

And that was in 7th grade BB.

Everything is becoming player centered. If something isn't done, coaches won't be much more than meat handlers. Left to the players devices, I don't think athletes will develop.....and sometimes you must puke in a hot gym for 4 years of what should be a privilege

McCauley wanted those players to win. Unforgivable!
The “in the know” Wofford supporters will tell you there is more to McCauley’s issues than pushing the players to work hard. It is known that Wofford gave him plenty of chances with anger management. I really liked McCauley, but he got what he deserved. Wofford has a good one now in Coach Perry. He works his players hard too, but with dignity.

I made this thread at around this time last year, so here are my current thoughts. Obviously, things will change as each school in the SoCon will gain players from the portal, and Samford may lose some players.

My Way-too-early SoCon rankings for next year:

Tier 1: Contenders
1. Samford
2. Chattanooga

Tier 2: Could be dangerous
3. UNCG
4. ETSU
5. Wofford

Tier 3: Has some work to do
6. Furman
7. Western Carolina

Tier 4: Bottom feeders
8. Mercer
9. The Citadel
10. VMI

SoCon award predictions
POTY: Achor Achor (Samford), Honor Huff (UTC)
Coach of the Year: Brooks Savage, ETSU
Newcomer of the year: No clue

1st team all-SoCon
Honor Huff (UTC)
A.J. Staton-McCray (Samford)
Donavan Atwell (UNC Greensboro)
Jaden Seymour (ETSU)
Kyler Filewich (Wofford)

I probably know nothing. Oh well.
Posted this about a year ago not knowing how transfers would shake up predictions. I ended up 2/5 on All-Socon First Team and think I did okay with team predictions!

I could have posted this in the Signing Class thread, but I think it fits here.
I've spent some time scanning the SoCon's recruiting lists on Verbal Commits.

Wofford signed
3 point guards;
5-10 - 3 star 3.11 rating held 7 offers
6-2 - 3 star 3.23 rating held 3 offers
6-2 - 3 star 3.17 rating held 6 offers
Wofford also signed a
6-8 185 forward - 3 star 3.21 rating held 7 offers

UNCG signed
6-4 shooting guard - 3 star 3.33 rating held 3 offers
6-7 shooting guard - 3 star 3.05 no other offers listed

ETSU signed
A 6-3 point guard - 3 star 3.28 rating held 7 offers

Samford signed
2 point guards
5-11 - 3 star 3.48 rating held 8 offers
6-1 - 3 star 3.05 rating, Samford only listed offer.

Chattanooga signed
6-4 shooting guard 3.5 star 3.61 rating held 12 offers
6-9 power forward 3.5 star 3.53 rating held 8 offers

Now Furman
Franklin 6-4 3 star 3.23 rating held 4 offers
O’Neal 6-4 3.5 star rating held 4 offers (two of those were Wofford and ETSU)
Wilkins 6-5 4 star 4.0 rating held 25 offers
Bowser 6-6 3 star 3.09 rating held 8 offers
Ritger 6-9 3.5 star 3.64 rating held 15 offers (three of those were Mercer, Wofford, Chatty)

By the numbers and by offers, Wilkins is by far the highest rated recruit coming into the SoCon next year, followed by another Paladin, Ritger.

If Franklin were uncommitted right now, his rating would be closer to a 4, and his offers would be much higher. Schools missed on him. From what I’ve read, Bowser is just scratching the surface - another guy that should excel in our system.

Who knows which of our brother schools will bring in a slew of transfers? Based on recruiting, they have some major holes to fill.

You have to love the talent level and length Furman has brought in. This class of guards will be a matchup nightmare in the SoCon.
