I don't think it's time to throw in the towel but getting humiliated by Wofford on our home court is hard to take. A few things have become evident since the OOC schedule has ended.
*OOC appears weaker than we thought. Since SoCon play has started we've been outplayed 3 straight games.
*As a few previous posters have pointed out, other teams have figured out how to beat Furman. Pressure the 2 guards on the perimeter and make someone else beat you.
*Wofford is better than Furman right now. They out-hustled us and were more physical. And shot the ball better.
*Their defense was better. They got wide open shots. Most of our shots looked rushed.
*Filewich got more rebounds (12) than Bowser, Hien, and Vanderwal did combined. They outrebounded us 52-35.
*Our 14-2 record coming into that game was meaningless. Wofford looked like they wanted to whip our ass good and we looked like all we had to do was show up and win. Our effort in the second half was good but it sucked in the first half.
*I really don't know what the answer is but it might be time for Coach R to shake things up some. Hughey gets put in the game after it's out of hand. Maybe he could have handled Filewich better? I also like, Molnar, who played with some hustle and attitude.
I'm not saying they should start but if we play the first 5 minutes the next game as pathetic as this one, then changes need to come quick. I would like to see a rotation of Hughey, Molnar, along with Johnston, Smith, and Anderson. That would give us 3 shooters on the court along with 2 defensive bangers. Molnar can guard a small forward. The downside of that is Hughey easily gets in foul trouble, Johnston lacks some athleticism and can be a liability on defense and Molnar doesn't shoot great. The upside is Johnston can shoot, Molnar can play defense and score inside, and Hughey can rebound, play defense, and occasionally score inside. Hughey used to be a decent 3 point shooter but I don't know what's happed to that.
The bottom line is Hughey and Molnar bring some physicality that we don't seem to have early in the last 3 games. Coach R needs to challenge this team to come out and play with some fire in the belly.
