January 13, 2025 was “Craig Melvin Day” at Wofford College and at the NBC Today Show at Rockefeller Center in New York - where it was unofficially (?) Wofford College Day.
Wofford extended a great day by making January 13, 3025, Wofford College Day in Greenville by Wofford Men’s Basketball beating Furman at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Congratulations Wofford.
Most impressive.
And Congratulations Craig Melvin!
Truly wonderful!
Really???? Post it on the WC board if they have one.

We should stop doing those gimmicky Wofford game promotions like T-shirts. Treat it like any other Socon game which it is. It only motivates Wofford and our team is left with a flat performance.

Defense was the worst it’s been all year along with uncg. To quote Dan, “wide open 3 after wide open 3”. Got outhustled bigtime, outrebounded by 17 by a much smaller team. Hate it we played so poorly in front of a great crowd of 4,367 approximately twice what the new Timmons will hold.

dont forget 17 pt woofy win vs ladies on Sat which was also "missed layups" vs "outstanding 3 pt shooting"
But THAT outcome is sort of standard and routine and to-be-expected, is it not, for Wofford WBB versus Furman WBB?

Totally agree, those are cringe worthy. Hate seeing those.

A flat performance against your rival? Can that really happen?

This is getting old. I’m tired of getting outplayed and outcoached when we play these two.

I don't think it's time to throw in the towel but getting humiliated by Wofford on our home court is hard to take. A few things have become evident since the OOC schedule has ended.

*OOC appears weaker than we thought. Since SoCon play has started we've been outplayed 3 straight games.
*As a few previous posters have pointed out, other teams have figured out how to beat Furman. Pressure the 2 guards on the perimeter and make someone else beat you.
*Wofford is better than Furman right now. They out-hustled us and were more physical. And shot the ball better.
*Their defense was better. They got wide open shots. Most of our shots looked rushed.
*Filewich got more rebounds (12) than Bowser, Hien, and Vanderwal did combined. They outrebounded us 52-35.
*Our 14-2 record coming into that game was meaningless. Wofford looked like they wanted to whip our ass good and we looked like all we had to do was show up and win. Our effort in the second half was good but it sucked in the first half.
*I really don't know what the answer is but it might be time for Coach R to shake things up some. Hughey gets put in the game after it's out of hand. Maybe he could have handled Filewich better? I also like, Molnar, who played with some hustle and attitude.

I'm not saying they should start but if we play the first 5 minutes the next game as pathetic as this one, then changes need to come quick. I would like to see a rotation of Hughey, Molnar, along with Johnston, Smith, and Anderson. That would give us 3 shooters on the court along with 2 defensive bangers. Molnar can guard a small forward. The downside of that is Hughey easily gets in foul trouble, Johnston lacks some athleticism and can be a liability on defense and Molnar doesn't shoot great. The upside is Johnston can shoot, Molnar can play defense and score inside, and Hughey can rebound, play defense, and occasionally score inside. Hughey used to be a decent 3 point shooter but I don't know what's happed to that.

The bottom line is Hughey and Molnar bring some physicality that we don't seem to have early in the last 3 games. Coach R needs to challenge this team to come out and play with some fire in the belly.

UNBELIEVABLE. I watched Duke (yes, I know it is Duke) hold these guys to FOURTEEN POINTS at halftime. I went to that game... pulling for Duke and watching Wofford SUCK. And before you say "that's Duke"... that was the LOWEST SCORE for any opponent at halftime in the shot clock era in Cameron Indoor... E V E R. Meaning, sure it was Duke but they play Elon and Furman and Army and etc etc EVERY year in OOC. and NO ONE had ever been this bad. NO ONE EVER. in 40 years? I think the shot clock began in 1985? please correct me if I am wrong.

The spread was maybe 25? Duke won by about FIFTY.

More to the point, My relative has been watching our Furman scores and noting a few weeks ago (if it was your thing :D ) you should start betting against Furman as he saw the pattern building in the SoCon games. I can't argue with him at this point. We don't look good.

Anyway, I don't follow basketball as much.

Legit question - can we win the weekend? Not a 'hot take' just conference scores haven't looked good. What needs to improve?

GF-ETSU at home Wednesday, UTC at home Saturday. Was a little concerned the way CBR sounded on the postgame. He was not his usual, we will get it done, get better, we’re still a good team etc. etc. Of course it’s understandable after that debacle.

Same here. It is formidable though when so many teams have you circled on their schedule as THE game. You could add Samford to that mix as they have a thread on their board dedicated to the FU/WOFFY game. WOFFY can't play the whole season with the defensive intensity they had last night.

I like your thoughts - we definitely need to see more of Johnston early. I know he has a bad knee, but he needs more playing time with his ability to play inside and outside. I'd like to see a starting lineup of Anderson, Smith, Molnar, Johnston , and Bowser. Rotate Hughey, Vanderwal, and Hien in off the bench . We also need better production from our backup guards. House and Bronson need to play much better.
