1. It's hard to really evaluate a QB when we can't run the ball.
2. Colton Hinton is electric, but was not supposed to be "THE" guy in this offense. He was supposed to be the dude in the slot always open while teams were struggling to cover Harris.
It's been a nightmare season. I feel a little better watching some traditional powerhouse programs (Michigan, Auburn, Southern Cal, etc.) struggle through similar growing pains this season. We aren't on an island in terms of having a surprisingly bad season.
I said before the best FBS comparison to FU is FSU. They were good last year but lost a lot of good players just like FU. Just like FU they were still highly ranked preseason, high expectations etc. They are now 1-8, their worst season in 50+ years just like FU and losing to teams they have never lost to.
I know some think AP is "negative" but I want to back him here... I had some FSU / FU thoughts about game 6 or 7.... It's not just the names that are similar this year. Both started ranked top 15.. Both had wonderful years last year... Both started with new QBs this year... Both were better on D than O this year... The similarities are there
Jackal is on point that we just aren't helping our young QBs. No QB is very good without a run game. The opposing D only has to defend half the playbook... and worse our OL isn't able to pass block only a 4-man rush OR snap the ball... I heard Cole Neely or someone going ballistic that Western was getting in our backfield with a simple 4 man rush executing basic DL moves. Simple swim moves etc. Nothing exotic that we shouldn't know how to handle.
And yes - SPEED KILLS. Hinton needs a partner. Two speedy Wideouts (or one WR and one slot) are more than the combination of the individual parts. Hinton is a 1X. Hinton plus a Harris would be a 2.5X... like basketball you can double one great shooter - you can't double two shooters.
Hope we get a football win here at the end and, more importantly, improve, and find some answers coming next year whether via improvement... freshman/sophomore learning.. or some transfers
I still am a big advocate for a more mobile QB. It makes the OL look better - again, everything works in combination
