Interestingly, we are up to #88 today in the Pomeroy rankings. I think that is the highest we have been all year. I think we moved up after losing to UNCG too. Wofford was about an 11-12 point favorite before our game so losing by 5 was overperforming the prediction. Wofford is # 39. That is the highest any SoCon team has been in a long time. It would be strong at-large bid position. ETSU is #76 and UNCG #102. Sagarin has us at #104, which is also about the highest this season. Wofford is #51, ETSU #93, UNCG #107.

Furman is in really good shape...I think this team is really going to start making some hay now...Timmons Arena...Say what you want to about it, but it's a place that Furman feels most comfortable and confident...I know that teams are supposed to play well at home, but Furman now plays elite at home...I think they have a certain pride about protecting the home floor now...That hasn't always been the case prior to 2015-16 I don't think.

Two results from Tuesday should aid SoCon a bit more

Villanova wins @ Butler 80-72 (Nova now 6-0 in Big East)
USC wins vs. #16 Auburn (Wofford beat USC by 20)(USC is 5-1 in SEC, LSU our only OOC lose beat USC by 22 and is 4-0 in SEC)

This is why FU has moved up some, not because of FU but the schedule. LSU is now top 25 and Villanova is up to 18 and WC is now receiving votes. We need to get 2 W's Thursday and Saturday.

I honestly feel that all 4 teams we lost against this season we could very well beat at home (including LSU), we play and shoot so much better in Timmons (as do alot of teams on home court)

So Villanova who was already ranked #14, won 2 more Big East games this week both by double digits and is now 18-4 (9-0 in the Big East)
Good chance they move back into the Top 10 this week, they have not been back there since we beat them when they were ranked #8

I wonder where that regular season road non-conference win ranks in recent SoCon history? I believe Davidson played some big games with Curry, but the only one that sticks out was Oklahoma, and they lost that one. Did Wofford win at UNC a few years ago?

UNC was #5 when Wofford beat them last year...One of the biggest wins you'll recall from the Curry era was a win at West Virginia in 2009, and then their run of wins vs Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin in 2008 tournament...Interestingly, Davidson started the 2007-08 season with losses at No. 1 North Carolina and at Western Michigan...Finished ranked No. 23 in AP and No. 9 in coaches poll following Elite Eight run.

If Wofford were to get ranked, to my knowledge, never has it been the case that two SoCon teams have been ranked during the same regular-season in the modern era...Also, in the 2007-08 season, Appalachian State had one of its best seasons ever...Beat Central Florida, UVA and Vanderbilt in the San Juan Shootout...Wichita State in a Bracket Busters game and won at Davidson with Curry...Finished with a school-record 25 wins, but got knocked out in the SoCon Tournament semis by College of Charleston and a 36-point effort from Dontaye Draper...Remember it well...That App State team should have been in the tournament...It years like that which have me skeptical as to whether the SoCon will ever get two...I mean, Virginia and Vandy both were tourney teams, and Vandy made Sweet 16!

Paladins checking in at 31st (12pts) in this weeks Top 25 Coaches Poll

Not going to complain because it sure is great to see Furman's name there, but it's pretty remarkable that that many people think Furman is worthy of being included in the top 25 as a mid-major with five losses, including four in conference. A note that's not that important, but interesting to me is that somewhere between one person thinking we are No. 14 to 12 people thinking we are No. 25 is how we get to 12 points. I don't care enough to go track down individual ballots to see how it breaks down.
