Losing Stephens is a huge loss. Our opponents run game just got a LOT better vs. FU. A shame because that probably ends his career because it was his 5th game of the season, correct me if I am wrong. Pretty sure he got hurt on the last play too.

Harris is not returning and I don’t think 8 and 40 are either.

Could just be one of those seasons.

On a positive note, if we are down a lot of bodies, it may be better that it came in a "reloading" year as opposed to a title run year.

Dang, I just want Furman to win so badly. Hard to see it be this way but I get it. Does stink for Xavier as a Senior - he was hurt with about 4 plays left - the Very last series for Citadel where we intercepted them. Game 5 so that is it for him and he is one of our best !

Moson will get to return for several years should he wish... so that still stinks but is a little different

IE, we LOST TWO PLAYERS for the season(!) in the last 4 plays !! It's just one of those years.

AP- Moson was lost on the last play... his interception. Not super important but Xavier was lost 2 or so plays earlier on same 3 and out to end game

My understanding is that the medical waiver process has both a date and completion percentage component. Essentially, the injury has to occur in the first half of the schedule and then be less than some percentage (20-30%) of the scheduled contests.

These rules are peculiar, but I was curious as to whether Samford's game being scheduled, but not played, would have helped them out in that capacity. Probably not.

I saw 40 hobble off earlier in the game. He came back in and fought through it, and then came back out again at the end.

LIgament/cartilage injuries can be weird. I tore an MCL a couple of weeks ago. I did not feel any immediate pain. I got cleaned up, changed clothes, sat down for about 15 min to answer some emails and went to stand up - so maybe an hour total after the incident - and said "ah sh!t" because when I bent it it barked like a doberman and I knew exactly what it was. But that first hour... didn't know it was hurt.

FU All- American OG, Judge Dan Sleet, played several series at Florida in ‘81 with a torn ACL. Played well too - against 2 Gator All-American DLmen…future NFLer’s

FUBeAR only missed 6 middle-of-the-season games in ‘80 with a torn ACL and returned for the final 2 games - including Sirrine Stadium’s swan song. Never had it repaired and played 2 more seasons. As MRI’s hadn’t been invented yet back then, only know for sure that it was torn cuz of the meniscus scope surgery he had about 30 years later. BTW - the Radiologist for that surgery, who coincidentally happened to be an FU Alumna, and, regretfully for her probably, a fairly brief paramour of FUBeAR’s, laughed at FUBeAR when she showed him his exploded (former) ACL on the MRI. That wasn’t very nice, was it?

Anyway - FUBeAR’s point is … we were a lot tougher back in those days than these pampered whippersnappers are today.

Not really - Just kidding - we were just A LOT dumber… HUGELY dumber.

Hope both of these young men (and FUATT) recover quickly and fully.

Also, whatever the issue is with/for young Mr. Harris - whether he brought it upon himself or not - FUBeAR hopes he can get it resolved, put it behind him, and, if applicable, learn from the experience.

2nd chances can, sometimes, be a beautiful thing, benefiting all involved parties. Just ask FUBeAR.

Would love to hear that Stephens gets to play again at end of year. Being the end of his career. Hopefully Mason has several more years here.

I can understand the excitement over JJ. But JJ AND Stephens is better than just JJ.

There isn't much we can do with availability, but having guys out has provided a good opportunity for some others to step into more prominent roles.

- Our SPUR position was a big question mark, especially after Hartwell was injured in the preseason. However, Brandt Babin looks like he's sort of solidified that role a bit. He's a hybrid linebacker type, but is already top 4 on the team in TFLS and is on pace to exceed both Chizik and Miller in that category from last season.

- Tanner Shuck looks like he's taken the opportunities to fill in for the injured Alex Maier as the #2 Bandit behind Luke Clark. Clark is probably having to play more than Vaughn would like to, but Schuck is a big body at 6'3 233 and notched his first sack against the Citadel. We'll probably keep seeing more of him.

- Jackson Pryor is a true freshman, but definitely sees to have put himself in a spot where Furman has to keep playing him. Furman seems to have an advantage with Brock Chappell drawing a lot of defensive attention and Pryor just seems like one of those guys that can just get open.

- Devin Hester seems like he's going to be the guy that will have the increased reps with Harris gone. Hester appears to have leap frogged a few other talented guys for that role.

- I have not really followed it closely, but I believe Furman seems to be using John Holbrook more as a slot guy. I think you are starting to see a trend in football where offenses do not necessarily use the shifty smaller guy as the slot receiver, but the bigger body to box out in the zone depending on coverage. Holbrook strikes me as a guy that is earning a reputation as a guy that can make some tough catches in traffic inside.

Jackal, good catch on this. I didn't follow exactly but noted that some of Holbrooks routes (I was following the ball etc in some games) seemed to be in traffic.
