I think foobear doth protest too much.

How much does any of that carp has to do with Furman, the defending SoCon basketball champions, and preseason number one selection, to repeat said championship, to do with FU getting beat by a Division II team with a 5-6 overall record?

That result is hard to argue with, but I know foobear will come up with something, always does, regardless of how much off the point his argument makes, he's just got to say something...

I'm waiting....

also wondering where FU Hoopla has gone? I guess foobear has taken his place in obnoxious posts on this board.

Current NET rankings has FU sixth in the SoCon even behind WC and Citadel. Geesh!
Looks like somebody at NET knew something. Hard to argue with results...
Speaking of results, FUBeAR’s been meaning to ask…

…but he didn’t want to bother you earlier today while you, apparently overcome with the holiday schadenfreude, were taking to every known social media platform to trumpet FU’s meaningless little slip up today …that OnlyFans video was really a (dental) bridge too far! … but anyway…

How did that big celebration in Cullowhee go this past March 15th?

What celebration you ask?

Welp…everyone knows that 3/15/2023 marked the 60th Anniversary of the last time that Western Carolina actually won a post-season national tournament basketball game. Yep, those WCU hoopster lads of a prior century whipped Fort Hays State in the NAIA Semi-Finals.

WCU has NEVER won a single game in ANY national post-season basketball tournament at the NCAA level. They lost their one and only shot ever at a win in the NCAA Basketball Tournament, oh, about 3 decades ago.

Y’know…Winning and WCU both start with a “W,” but that’s where any similarity seems to end.

BTW - Please let the Admins at WCU know if they also aren’t impressed with Furman’s results, they can send those NCAA $’s from Furman’s NCAA Tourney win over UVa just a few months ago (vs. 60 years or NEVER ago) right on down to Poinsett Hwy. We’ll gladly deposit another share of the cash that Furman’s results provided for the hapless, helpless, and hopeless WCU Athletics program.

And…still waiting to find out what the ”or bust” part of “Championship or bust” means cuz WCU Football wasn’t anywhere close to even sniffing any kind of Football Championship this season … unless there is a Trophy for Self-Overhyping. The Cats won that one going away.

Don’t be too hard on Mr. Cats FuBear. Like most of his mountain brethren he bought in to ol used car salesman Kerwin “ this team is done built different “ right up until the point Lt. Huff went for his 55 yard fun run and blew the Whee faithful good bye kisses. The subsequent collapse ending in a beating by VMI was WCU doing what they do. Now Kerwin has helped his kid shuffle off to Pitt. and will ride out his early retirement gig with someone else’s problem transfers until he decides the charms of Cullowhee should be passed on to the next guy desperate enough to take a shot.

Anyone that thought there would not be a dropoff from last year was living in a fantasy world. With that said the dropoff has been much more dramatic than expected. Should be an interesting CBR show on Tuesday.

true. but one difference from last year has been injuries. Last year was great. cant remember anyone being out

this year has been totally the opposite.

there have been a couple games that showed the potential.

Come SoCon tourney time this team will be hard to deal with especially if 100% healthy% . Good experience gained due to unfortunate injuries.

I believed him last season when during a rough stretch CBR said the team was going to be great when it’s all said and done, he wasn’t wrong.

Heard him say during his recent show that he’s never been more excited about a team’s potential as he is this one. And he doesn’t seem like one to BS.

I started out the season with the mindset that we’d have a decent chance to win the SoCon tourney and haven’t seen a reason to change that. Clearly we’ve looked like crap in several games but we were all pretty high on this team after several others when everyone is healthy and gelling.

NET down to 173, 7th in the SoCon. I still have faith Bob can right the ship by SoCon Tournament time. But, we need a leader, and not one player has stepped up to be the man.
Thank goodness the NET ignores non D1 games. We have dropped 6 spaces due to normal regression. They show our record as 4-6, only D1 games. I wonder if Anderson will still list this game as an exhibition. Lol.

None of us wanted to believe it, or admit it but we all knew last year was a once in a lifetime season for a team like Furman. We tried to believe the preseason hype that we were going to be good again but deep down we all knew that it was not likely. We lost 2 of the best players in Furman history. In the Furman world those type players just don’t get replaced. The good thing is last year happened and no one can take that memory from us.
No no no

Based on the football forum … graduating good players makes little to no difference at all. Here at Furman we RELOAD like Alabama football !!!!!!

I better see 10 wins in football next year :D

Was shocked to see this score. A downright embarrassment. No defense for this.

Amazingly, when you take 40 ppg scoring out of the lineup the team might not be as good. The players in the jerseys win games, not the name on the front of the jerseys.

So far this season Foster has missed 5 games, Pegues 2, Williams 4, Vanderwahl 3, Hughey 3, and Molnar 1. All six of those guys has started at least 1 game. Not too many teams have had six starters out. Not only does that group include the top three scorers but four of the top five three point shooters.

CBR as a HC is overall 145-62 and 78 -27 in conference play. To call last year an “outlier “ is laughable. This has been a disappointing start and this team is certainly underachieving. Really good coaches ( which there is no doubt CBR is) usually find ways to get improvement from teams in a slide, I will be surprised if this doesn’t happen.
What is “laughable” or even pathetic is that you think that an appearance in the tourney for the first time in 43 years is NOT an outlier.

Totally agree with Jasper, last year was an outlier year when you are looking at one season. Not that they have not bern good years before but none come close to last year. Most wins in school history, first outright championship since forever, first SoCon tournament win since 1980, first NCAA tournament win since 1974. No doubt an outlier of a year, unique, one of a kind, whatever you want to call it and one we will probably never see topped.
