Looking at the box score from the APSU.

Schomburg has played in 6 games this year and has only 2 rushing attempts. That includes two games he started. He threw a minimum of 21 passes in those games (36 against APSU)

I think that tells me a few things:

1. He's probably not a guy they are going to use as a runner. Maybe he isn't fast and it isn't his skill set. Maybe UTC doesn't need him to get banged around when QB1 is out and QB3 is probably completely untested. His one rush attempt against APSU was a scramble for no gain where he was run down by the linebacker.

2. It does not appear that he's been sacked in those two games. That suggests that UTC is having him get the ball out quickly. He's a freshman and they are probably cutting down the playbook some for him with easier reads.

That leads me to one of their touchdown plays. This is really the only bit about UTC that concerns me on offense - the slant route to Watley and Mayes. UTC's receivers aren't big guys, but they are fast and are physical once they get the ball in their hands. I've seen them multiple times this year break tackles on slant routes and take the ball to the end zone. They did it against us too.

This is a simple route combination. APSU is stacking guys in the box because UTC was having success in the run game. To stop UTC's offense, I think this is the type of play Furman has to be able to stop. This is how UTC beats teams - run the ball and hit one or two of these quick passes to their explosive receivers.

He's also about 6'4" 145...

...so, he might break if he gets hit.

That top ten of Furman's Sack Attack… is nasty.
I really like the way J Jackson has been playing.

I wonder if that weight is still accurate? Typically they are weighed during summer camp and that is not updated throughout the season. But yea, maybe he’s 165 tops? I hope they have that 3rd string guy warmed up.

He's listed at 194 on UTC's website, which would make him roughly where Darren Grainger was as a freshman at Furman (6'4 195).

UTC is going to move him, keep backs and TEs in to protect, and try to get the ball out quick.

UTC's game plan to win, in my view, is playing strong defense, keep good field position, and see if Mayes and Whatley can break a play or two. They'll ride their defense, try to keep the game close, and hope that they can land a haymaker.

Both teams will play good defense. The game will be decided, I think, by whether Furman's offense can move the ball. I don't think this will be a shootout, and Furman keeping a two score lead at some point could be huge.

I hadn't thought about it till CCH brought it up on the show Monday.
Furman's been playing without its two leading rushers, who combined have rushed for 12 touchdowns.

In a game that it appears likely will be played in rain and sometimes a downpour.
I like having a trio of backs that weigh; 231, 216, 212, plus Anderson is no slouch at 200.
Not to mention a 6-5, 240 H-Back and a 6-7, 260 TE.

He's not a pound over 150 even soaking wet and wearing his little train driver's hat.

The guys at Hack City like Furman maybe by a couple of scores, hope they are right. FU/UTC preview starts at 25:15.

Looks like whomever advances, playing in cool rainy weather may help prepare for an all-too-likely road game to Montana.

Take it with a BIG grain of salt but Chris Justice said rain on Saturday would not start until 3 or 4pm with heaviest of rain Saturday nigh. Probably means it will start early and rain all day.

UTC scored two touchdowns on us a few weeks ago.

One was this play, which appears to be maybe a too-aggressive play by our backup safety, who tried undercut the receiver on the post and missed both the ball and the receiver. QB throws a dime, though.

The other was whatever this was. UTC couldn't recreate this if they had 100 tries.

Besides those two quick scoring drives, UTC only got inside the red zone once - a missed field goal on the second drive of the game. They punted 7 times, turned it over on downs twice, and had an interception.

Jeez - Artopoeus throws a STRIKE on that 1st one. That ball goes 30 yards in the air with hardly any air under it. Don’t see many 30 yard ropes in FCS Football. FUBeAR would be surprised if their FR backup QB can make that throw.

The coverage wasn’t bad. Don’t think the FU Safety “undercut” it. The ball just got there in such a hurry, he didn’t have any chance really to break on it. The QB ‘threw him open.’ The Moc WR was barely able to snag it as it zinged by and it was thrown so only he would have a chance to get a hand on it.

Really just a great ‘shot’ by a QB that won’t be playing Saturday and a nice catch/run by a WR who will. FUBeAR thinks they will miss QB1 vs. FU’s Defense. APSU’s D ain’t anything like FU’s.

What are the chances the news about Artopeous being unavailable is a ruse?
