I really don’t think anyone can argue that we are overrated if not way overrated. Today was a perfect example, game should have never been close. Had a bunch of opportunities to the nail in the coffin but failed every time. Our offense leaves a lot to be desired. ET scored 4 tds against them which is their only ones of the year and we score 3. I said it at the first of the year and I will say it again. “We are not who we thought we were”. Hope I can eat my words next week but doubt it.
I would argue that we are rated where we need to be. We are a talented and tough team that deserves to be ranked in top 5 of FCS teams.
Ok keep watching thru your purple coated glasses. We have a 5-1 record because we have played 3 bad teams and 2 average teams. We are only ranked as high as we are because of where we started and its hard to drop a team if it wins regardless,
And the problem is ? Would you rather us be the other pre season favorite (Sammy) ? Did it ever occur to you that because of our lofty ranking we get everybody’s best shot? It is tough to win at this level and I don’t know if we win the conference or not but I certainly enjoy the level of effort by this group.

I’m going to ride this over rated, over ranked, sorry football team as far as they can go! Hopefully to Frisco. I will also wear my purple glasses. When it’s all over nobody gives a rip how lopsided a score was, but did you win. Come to think of it…our 17-12 Natty win over GSU in 88 was a joke! We should have beat them by 28.

I haven't heard anyone talk about our defense sacking Hiers 9 times today. The Furman record is 10 sacks in a game. That is awesome!
It was AWESOME

. I did mention it above in post 77258. Read them Gofurman posts 😀😀

LOVED IT. Phenomenal. Game changing
Sorry about that, GF!

Dorn. Great point. Funny the 6 or so people who “liked” you pointing this out didn’t like my post which pointed out the SAME THING.

I saw Harris’s family after the game and they seemed to think he was ok.
Thanks ALLTIMEFU. We really need him and Brinson.

Weird on Brinson. I think he was listed on game notes. Did he play at all?

Well, I know that unless Furman wins by 50 that there are going to be some people who post like we lost by 50. Admittedly I have been there as well this year. We all have/had high expectations for this team. I think there are understandable concerns with the offense at times. I don’t begrudge anyone for feeling that way. It feels like because of that though, some people have already written this team off to lose to western and UTC. That could happen but it hasn’t happened yet.

I thought it would be interesting to look at where Furman was through 6 games in 2022 and 2023.

2022: Furman was 4-2 with wins over D2 NG, then #18 ETSU by 13 points, a 5 point come from behind win over Charleston Southern, and an 11 point win over citadel. Losses to Clemson (23 points) and then #17 Samford without the starting QB.

2023: Furman is 5-1 with wins over TTU (35 points), KSU (3 points), then #21 ? Mercer (24 points), citadel (14 points), and Samford (6 points). Only loss was to South Carolina (26 points)

Besides “how it looked,” is there really any difference in where we are now versus then? Other than being 1 win better?

I know there are more than a few people here that I’m sure think we are going to be crushed by western and UTC. It could very well happen but, again, it hasn’t happened yet. We only get 11 guaranteed games a year. I’m going to try and enjoy the wins however they happen and hope for continued growth.

Some positives today:
Roberto had his first 100 yd game 128 yds on 18 carries.
The offense got its first 400 yd game of the season
Defense had 9 sacks
Defense held Hiers to under 300 yds passing(299)
Defense held SU under 50 yds rushing,
10th straight SoCon win.

Brinson family was there. Don’t recall seeing him play.
Yeah. I kept looking as much as SAmford is willing to test the DBs. Never saw him. Saw him on sideline with no helmet when O was on field

He was wearing a uniform so not like he didn’t dress out.

I have a suggestion. Maybe we should not have a game thread, where people post after every bad or good play. Games have their own ebbs and flows. if people could refrain from commenting throughout the game, and post only at halftime or after the game, many negative comments would be eliminated. We might then have a much more positive board.
