FUBeAR kinda hates to call this out…but if we’re correcting other folks publicly, we oughta make sure we are correct about it…so, if FUBeAR has his facts wrong here, PLEASE correct him.

It seems we are ‘mashing up’ the Furman - The Citadel Football series with the Furman - Wofford Football series and comparing them inaccurately with the Auburn- Georgia series.

FUBeAR believes the following 4 statements to be true…

1) The Furman - Wofford Football series is ACTUALLY the Deep South’s oldest Football rivalry with the 1st meeting on December 14, 1889.

2) The Auburn - Georgia Football series inaccurately and widely claims to be the Deep South’s oldest Football rivalry, but as their 1st meeting was February 20, 1892, that is 798 days after Furman and Wofford squared off at Encampment Grounds in Sparkle City, SC. Just as the Furman - Wofford series has not been played every year since its beginning, the Georgia - Auburn series has also not been ‘continuous.’

3) The Furman - The Citadel Football series began November 1, 1913; many years after the 2 series mentioned above.

4) The Furman - The Citadel Football series can be termed the Southern Conference’s oldest rivalry. Furman & The Citadel joined the Southern Conference in 1936. They are the 2 longest-standing continuous (VMI joined in 1924, but left in 2003, before returning in 2014...but their series with The Citadel didn't begin until October 16, 1920, so no way to 'twist' their series into "the SoCon's Oldest Football rivalry") members of the current Southern Conference members. Chattanooga and WCU are the next 2 oldest and they didn’t join until 1976; 40 years after FU & CIT. So, we can set that ‘start date’ of the FU - CIT Southern Conference rivalry @ 1936…and it is de facto the oldest Southern Conference rivalry by 40 years.

So…Unless FUBeAR is missing something, we should not be smacking Auburn and UGa peeps with the history of our series with The Citadel, but we should be beating them mercilessly for their unabashed lying when our Mighty Paladins series with the LittleDogs from Sparkle City beats their prevarication by nearly 800 days!

Yes or No?

Video removed. Sorry for the brain cramp.
Well dang...didn't mean to cause that drastic of a response. Just wanted to make sure we always have the high ground over those lying glory-stealing SEC cretins.

Love all you do Dan! You are an A-NUMBER 1 FUBeAR FAVORITE!!!!

FU website is touting Furman/citadel as the SoCon's "most contested" rivalry. I think that may be correct. FU/cit have probably faced off more than any other two SoCon foes. But yes, the SoCon (and South's) oldest rivalry is Furman/woffy.
That's most likely correct and not even real close. A quick scan thru each schools' "Record Against All Opponents" (which FUBeAR won't be doing) would almost certainly confirm.

Looking forward to studying the above information when I can. In my opinion, Furman's football history has important details that we should be aware of. More Furman people, more Greenville people, and more SC people should be aware of it. This is not to say that the present and future of Furman football are even more important.
