That series was so beautifully executed that any film compilation needs a voiceover from the original NFL Films narrator complete with the music in the background.
John Facenda died in ‘84, but with the treasure trove of brilliant audio he left to us as his legacy, AI could have his voice calling each of those 6 FU @ USC 1982 plays and provide his voice giving the overall narrative of that game as if he were there…and still here.

He did do 2 College pieces - both from that era (‘82-‘83)

Not Furman, but read the ETSU forum and saw some of their fans complaining about their schedule. Had to look.

5 home games, including a D2.
Their first FCS home opponent is in Week 6 (Oct. 7), which is only their second home game of the season.
The Bucs go TO Furman, UTC, Samford, AND Western Carolina.
The also have to travel to a pretty decent Austin Peay team.
No FBS game either.
@ FBS Conference USA member, Jacksonville State, on 9/2
Like I said no FBS game! 🤣🤣 Technically yes, reality no. Doubt their fans are excited about that one. Doubt JSU is giving them a huge payday. Conference USA has become a bunch of FCS teams that are FBS wanabees.

True with the exception of Liberty. They should have been in Sunbelt years ago. Their facilities (and budget) are amazing. They have also proven they can win in multiple sports. I don't think they will be in ConfUSA for long

FUBeAR’s #MondayMusings

“With their lead cut to 21-16 with 5:05 to play, the Southern Conference Paladins stormed 80 yards in six plays to go ahead 28-16 with just over two minutes to play. Tailback Robbie Gardner scooted in from the South Carolina 3 for the clinching score.”

IN A PERFECT WORLD, the Furman Football Twitter (X?) Manager would go DEEP into the Furman Football archives, find film/video of these 6 plays and upload them in 6 Tweets.

But that’s not all …FUBeAR said a PERFECT world … so…then Jackal would post all 6 of those Tweets here and break down each play.

Image
Hmmm…memory sez those plays were…
1) 28 Base - Counter option
2) 22 Tackle Trap - Fullback up middle - same backfield ‘action’ as prior play, but give to FB - completely different line blocking scheme
3) 48 Sweep - toss sweep right
4) 40 Base - same backfield ‘action’ as prior play, but ‘sneak’ handoff to Fullback up the middle with completely different line blocking scheme
5) 48 Sweep
6 ) 48 Sweep - trust FUBeAR - they knew it was coming. We told ‘em.

Maybe Jackal can just imagine the perfect execution that was exhibited on each of these plays and break ‘em down using his imagination.
The best part about this drive…. Old school, kicked their asses off the field football. Furman did that a lot in the early 80’s. It wasn’t fancy. It was deceptive as FUBeAR explained. And… it made a statement!

I recall sitting in the stands watching. It was a thing of beauty!
I agree! I was there, too! It was hot as blazes!

It was easy getting out the stadium that day. Most all of the Carolina fans left early

Much like another stadium with another Carolina's fans on Oct. 30, 1999! I'll never forget that one either.

I don't believe I had seen anyone mention Tee Martin's son transferring to ETSU. I presume there is a good connection there with Coach Q being from Knoxville.

Didn’t play Football @ U. of Miami. Barely played on Baseball Team.

Hard to ‘track’ him because he moved around to multiple HS’s…but looks like he may have played QB for a HS in MD in ‘21 because their ‘Star’ QB got hurt…so, Martin transferred in (guess he was a Free Agent)…but (maybe) lost the job when the ‘star’ QB got well. Star QB signed with Maryland and was moved to TE.

Be interesting to see if he does play Football, if he’s any good, and if he’ll stay if he is any good.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
