Not true at all. San Diego state has height, FAU has a 7 footer and Saint Mary’s just had a 7 foot 4 player transfer. There is height in mid major just not here at FU. I agree go after a big man
Height is overrated.

Definitely can’t be coached. But in basketball it seems to help.

Agree somewhat. But I said big man with some skills. SDSU has several of them and Creighton had one. After watching Texas/Miami it's obvious there's more than one way. Nice to see a game with some good shooting.

Height is also a liability...Just look at Purdue for that example.
So can being short. If you're not hitting your shots like we were in the SDSU game height would help collect our misses.

Zach was also the highest scorer on that Purdue team with 21 points. It can also be a big advantage.

I'll take length/wingspan and athleticism over height everyday in the CBR system. A lumbering 6-11+ player in our fast-paced system would/could be a liability.

Thank you! He shot about 70% in that loss but only shot, I think, 11 times. Meanwhile they chose to take something like 26 3’s at 19%. How is that loss because of too much height? It reminds me of years ago when OSU lost to Penn St or MSU (can’t remember) because they sorta forgot they had Zeke Elliot and only ran him like 5 times.

Nobody wants a lumbering clod, but there are good big men out there. It is probably easier to get one than ever because they have been so devalued. The real trick is finding one able and willing to play like a big man instead of playing like a tall slow, poor shooting guard which is what they all want to do now. But if we want to keep playing really small, we need better shooters or more guys who shoot 35% or better so that on a given night SOMEBODY will be hitting (if we want to do more than win the SoCon).

I agree one thousand percent. Look at Jake Stephens who dominated our team. Yes, he did lose but still performed well. If FU ever wants to make a run at something more than a SOCON championship they need a true big man. If we are going for a shooter we need to be able to shoot better as a team. The only player that preformed well against SDSU was Alex Williams and he was the only one. By having a traditional big man, the shots may even open for our shooters.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
