I am not sure this is correct. Probably before your tme but you’re forgetting the sold out/standing room only crowds at the old auditorium back in the 70’s early 80’s.
I think it probably is correct, but there were greater crowds announced. It was commonly claimed that the Auditorium held as many as 6,000. Because I worked with Furman at the same time as busybody head coach Jene Davis, I know that GMA had 3,434 seats. -- MD
No way I believe GMA only had 3,400 seats. Rethinking I now remember the capacity for basketball was 5,600 and we had a few games that reached above that with SRO.

Yes, it's great to play at the Well for the players, coaches, fans and to impress recruits, but your 3 top attendance figures were all against Wofford (5,332 / 6,096 / 6,199) don't you feel that the proximity from Spartanburg to BSWA being less than an hour drive plays into the higher attendance figures with the visiting team support. The Greenville Winter Invitational had attendance at 4,117 and you had 3 South Carolina teams playing in it , i do feel if the Invitational was played in early December or after Christmas the attendance would have been much higher. It's just my opinion that i do not feel Furman is winning the Greenville population as they should be , for me it is who they are playing against that determines the size of the crowd at the Well. I do enjoy attending games at Timmons, it is very disappointing with the size of the crowd especially in big games,( mostly the student section). Most definitely an upgrade of Timmons is much needed, if this program continues to progress and it should with the coaching foundation it has the future is bright. I also feel these white outs are not needed, just need people to wear their Furman colors, i think Furman purple rally towels would work for a big game. In closing i would like to give a shout out to the Furman staff employee who helped hand and catch the chairs at the halftime entertainment on Saturday, also to all you guys that participate on this forum, i enjoy your input and also learning more about Furman sports. thank you

In trying to find attendance numbers for back in the day at The Brown Box, I came across this jewel of a find, the 1977-1978 media guide.https://scdl.contentdm.oclc.org/digital ... 30/id/3369

Here is a link to the S.C. Digital Library for many of Furman's athletic media guides. https://scdl.contentdm.oclc.org/digital ... l30/search

By the way, remember the sold out crowd for the February 24, 1982 game against DePaul? Great game, but we lost 75-74. The attendance was listed at 5,287. The January 31, 1981 home game against Clemson had an announced crowd of 5,500. That is the largest crowd numbers I could find. It's been fun taking the time to look into our rich basketball history.

Timmons would be much better if they would pump in the fresh popped popcorn smell from the Box.

That smell came from corn that was popped using unhealthy and unsustainable ingredients like oil, fatty butter, & salt. You'll never get a whiff of that aroma from the prefab stuff that passes for popcorn these days.

NEPA agree about the WC peeps showing up at the Well, however there were very few WC fans at the Well on Saturday. Their biggest cheers came from their bench. Great turnout from Furman fans even though the students could have been better.

Yes and I am glad to find out that I have not totally lost it remembering a 6,000 plus attendance at GMA. 🤣

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
