Dribble Dribble Dribble!!!!
So we bring the ball down the court. We make 3 or 4 modified weave passes or hand offs all outside of the three point circle. The ball is now at the top of the key where it started. There is now 15 -12 sec on the shot clock. We dribble, dribble and dribble some more with maybe a high ball screen. Someone takes a shot, it may go in or it may not. Only one offensive player makes any effort to get an offensive rebound. Two guys stand in the corner and do not move. (Wish I could have guarded the guy standing in the corner back in the day). The other team gets the rebound and goes down court and does the same thing.

I watch this every night on TV and when I go to a game. What happened to passing the ball and moving. What happened to screening away from the ball. What happened to getting the first pass inside the three point circle. Does anyone even know what a V cut is to get open anymore. Do any of these coaches today know how UNC, Indiana, UCLA used to play to win games and championships. Would it work today. I do not know but I sure would like to see someone try. I have seen all the Dribble, Dribble , Dribble I can stand to see. I will discuss defense on another day.

Moving without the ball and setting screens and stuff is team basketball. Team basketball was taught back in the days of HS basketball being the big deal. Now showcasing you skills in AAU is the big deal. So nobody learns that old stuff. Threes and flashy dunks get you noticed. Not that other crap. So it kinda looks like modern offenses are based on what the kids like to do and have always done. And they all want to do the same stuff. Seems like big men would want to learn a turnaround bank shot seeing as how it can be unstoppable and stuff. But no, that would take time away from shooting 3's. Try to make them do something else and they quit. So you just run the "offense" that everybody else uses. If you have better players, you win.

We used to score more off of backdoor cuts and stuff. Maybe that's clogged up because they don't have to overcommit against our 3 shooting.

Was just discussing this last night with an FU Football Teammate from days gone (way) by.

Convo started by lamenting about the report that UGa beat out OhioSt for a Football recruit because the Buckeyes wouldn’t/couldn’t pay the $1.8M Signing Bonus & $800k/yr NIL/Salary that the Bulldogs had offered…

…and morphed into how much we 2 NC natives used to love ACC Hoops as kids and beyond…and then a discussion of the ‘state of the game.’ It’s not good and exactly as described by GOAT & Furmanoid. FUBeAR now prefers watching Women’s College & Girls HS Hoops to any other leagues. We like teamwork, passing, boxing out, rebounding and defense as part of our overall Hoops games. So, we both watch just a wee bit of March Madness now…and that’s it for Men’s College Hoops. If the young folks like the brand of hoops they see in Men’s NCAA, NBA, and other leagues, then fine…as FUBeAR has noted about several topics…who knew the movie “Idiocracy” was a documentary from the future when released 16 years ago?

On the Football front, Teammate still watches FBS Football. FUBeAR does not…not really…catches a bit of UGa’s games out of family obligation and will watch some of the CFP games. Other than that, it’s FCS-only, with a bit of HS Football mixed in. Unlike Hoops, FCS College Football hasn’t lost FUBeAR yet, but if some things don’t change (soon) about the FCS Playoff structure/selection and/or we start seeing the kind of NIL BS in FCS that exists now in the P5, then the relationship will definitely be ‘on the rocks.’

NOTE: Didn’t mention Transfer Portal - waiting to see how that shakes out post-Covid “free” years before determining the impact of that on FUBeAR’s FCS Football relationship…have eyes 👀 on it though…

Has HS football quality fallen off where you live? We play 4A (1200 students or so) and some teams barely have 30 guys. Guys aren't as strong as they were 10 years ago, and and they are forever getting cramps. The skill level, especially stuff like receiving is way, way down. Maybe its just SC, but it seems like maybe football without coaching doesn't work good. If you coach, you get fired or everybody quits and then you get fired.

Nah…not really…you’re cherry-pickin’ - Speaking about FCS…The 4 Teams in the Finals run the dang ball …and also play solid run defense, for the most part.

RUSHING OFFENSE - Through games December 10, 2022
RANK TEAM G RUSH RUSH YDS YDS/RUSH RUSH TD YPG

1 Montana St. 13 639 4314 6.75 47 331.8
3 North Dakota St. 13 571 3498 6.13 45 269.1
15 UIW 13 488 2754 5.64 27 211.8
44 South Dakota St. 13 488 2205 4.52 30 169.6

RUSHING DEFENSE - Through games December 10, 2022
RANK TEAM G OPP RUSH OPP RUSH YDS YDS/RUSH OPP RUSH TDS YPG

1 South Dakota St. 13 394 1110 2.82 10 85.4
32 Montana St. 13 421 1705 4.05 16 131.2
39 North Dakota St. 13 458 1813 3.96 12 139.5
55 UIW 13 548 2020 3.69 23 155.4

We can extend this to deeper in the FCS Playoffs and it will look similarly. The game has changed, for sure…but basic fundamentals…and winning the battles in the trenches are still required for success.

Nah not really, its pretty much a bunch of no defense high scoring crap games MOST of the time in college football, if you want to talk about the final 4 then you're leaving out about 99% of all other teams/games in the country.
If that's the case then lets just talk about only the Final 4 teams in basketball ;) Speaking of cherry picking

They will continue to change for as long as they are played

Not really. Heard today that public schools’ enrollments in Gwinnett (massive HS sizes) are rapidly decreasing post-Covid…mostly parents taking kids out of Gov’t Indoctrination Centers and putting them in Private SCHOOLS…but still playing top-notch Football in Georgia…except Tackling…nobody can tackle anymore.

We can also do this for Conference Champions in FCS.

You will not succeed in pushing a narrative that FCS Football currently lacks basic fundamentals and that Teams don’t succeed by running the ball and playing strong run defense. We saw it this year in the SoCon - Samford was finally able to run the ball a little bit and played the best defense they’ve played this decade…and they went from middle of the pack to SoCon Champions.

Your current argument has zero merit. You will do much better trying to ‘defend’ / dispute how GOAT and Furmanoid have described “The State of college basketball.” Good luck with that, BTW.

I don't need to succeed at anything, I am telling you how I feel about football and you're telling me how you feel about basketball, at the end of the day it matters not
