Can he tell us anything about those cool architectural renderings of Timmons upgrades that we weren’t supposed to see?

After what was viewed as a successful basketball season last year, FUBeAR believes we made and/or will be making significant financial investments in the program in order to, ideally, seize on momentum and take our hoops program to the next level.

FUBeAR believes a few of the areas we addressed and/or we have plans to address include:
* Head Coach retention
* Asst Coach compensation & retention
* Significant planned facilities improvements.

All GREAT news and looking forward to following the Paladins as they make a deep run in March Madness this year!

So….FUBeAR’s Question ———-

With the success of this year’s Football Team, regardless of what happens this Saturday (and/or in the weeks ahead), do we, as a University / Athletics Dept, have the appetite & resolve necessary to seize this year’s momentum and make the significant financial investment required in these same areas, and others, in order to get us back to our former level of competitiveness - SoCon Football dominance & a Top 4 National Contender… EVERY year?

Actually…2 part question … same general question, but focusing on AD Retention and FU’s appetite & resolve? JD the AD is a KEEPER! LET’s DO IT!!

The Greenville TV market continues to grow and that's a great start, to go along with successful athletics teams.
Now probably not an AD question exactly, but has JD ever had any conversations with ED about how beginning to slowly increase student enrollment at FU over time could also boost the Universities appeal and athletics capacities moving forward, in relation to being able to seize on future conference affiliation opportunities that may arise?

1. Since Kennesaw St. Is moving to FBS will next years scheduled game at KSU still be played?

2. Wofford is playing Pitt and Clempson next year. Will FU do the same in the near future, especially since ‘24 and ‘25 are 12 game regular seasons?

What effort has been made to foster a better relationship with our local media outlets ( Greenville News, WYFF) to increase coverage of our games? The Greenville News has virtually no coverage, other that an occasional piece by Scott Keeler. WYFF visits occasionally.

Does the Athletic Department provide financial support to The Furman Marching Band and Pep Band in return for their participation at Football and Basketball games? What is the best way for us to show our support for the student musicians who devote their time & talents to enhancing the Game Day experience?

Would I be correct or incorrect to assume the music department is given a certain number of scholarships every year to use towards attaining some of these musicians?

It has been a bit (10 years+), but here is what I recall on the band's involvement:

Football: The school and the music department have music scholarships they provide to students to attend Furman. Generally if you play a wind or percussion instrument, the scholarship mandates that you participate in marching band. The students get a free drink or snack from the athletic department during the homes games. The athletic department also pays for the band to go to the one FBS away game every year if it is drivable in a day (Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, etc.) I believe there usually isn't enough money to pay for overnight lodging or go to a 2nd away game.

Basketball: The band is limited per NCAA rules to 30 people. The school pays each student $10 per home game (usually 16 games between men and women). The NCAA covers the entire cost of transporting, housing, and feeding the band, team, and cheerleaders for the SoCon tournament and NCAA/NIT tournament if the team makes it.

A lot may have changed in 10 years, but this is how I recall the band finances were managed.

Sounds fair…except for the part about giving these prima dona music-heads scholarships just because they can beat or blow fairly well. FUBeAR thought Furman was an academics-oriented institution. Next thing you know, we’ll be giving scholarships to athletes.

Sad, just sad!

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
