Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the last Furman team to go 8-2 in the first 10 games was the 2005 team.

Furman and Sammy should both be in the top 10 this week.

IF Mercer beats Samford, Furman beats Wofford, and Chatt beats WCU next Saturday, the top of the SoCon will look like this..

SCHOOL CONF CPCT. OVERALL PCT.
Samford 7-1 .875 9-2 .818
Furman 7-1 .875 9-2 .818
Chattanooga 6-2 .750 8-3 .727
Mercer 6-2 .750 8-3 .727

Absolutely unconscionable to think any of these 4 Teams would NOT make the FCS Playoffs.

You are right, AND both SHOULD BE in the Top 8 and jockeying for which seed they will take.

A seed will be tough for Furman.

I will note that last year, Montana State was the #8 seed at 9-2 with a resume not as impressive as Furman has right now.

If Furman can get to 9-2, it would be interesting to see whether the committee would grant them a seed over, say, Incarnate Word or Holy Cross, who play in much weaker conferences and have a comparatively less impressive resume.

I'm trying to form my AGS ballot right now. I try to be realistic and not a homer.
I've moved NDSU down to 7th and Holy Cross down to 9th. I moved Samford up to 6th.
I feel that Furman realistically can sit at #10.

If W&M loses to Richmond, it could come down to HC and Furman for that 8th seed. Furman, by far, has the more impressive resume, but HC is undefeated.

Why 10th?

Why not Top 5?

Samford’s ‘resume’ is as good as any in the country unless you buy into the overhype of the Big Sky and/or the MVFC. The HomewoodHounds ONLY loss is to #1 FBS, Georgia! They’ve beaten Top 5 Teams, Furman and Chattanooga (see how that circular logic / hype works) on the road. Jeez - You could make an argument for Samford at #2 in the AP and CFP.

So, if you don’t buy the hype and can resist voting peer pressure enough to put Samford at #1…where do you put Furman, who has beaten 3 ranked Teams and only losses are to ‘your’ #1 (in an extremely controversial game) and ACC Championship Team, Clemson? You could put FU @ #2 … but … don’t see any Teams other than SacSt, MontSt, and HC that can ‘claim’ a better resume…so FU should be #4 and HC #5 because the PL is garbage…or, if you wanna tribute the Crusaders unblemished garbage-y record, go ahead and slot them #4 with Furman at #5.

FurMAN UP & Rank your ’Dins in your Top 5 - you’re not being a homer. You’re being a (justified) hype denier!

The problem is the teams in front of SU and FU in the polls are not likely to lose. I know they don’t have to follow the polls but they always do. Couple that with the fact that they will not give 2 seeds to the lowly SoCon. Do either SU or FU want the 8th seed? That means you would get the #1 seed in the quarterfinals.

Seen 2 computer polls so far... Dins #14 and #16
Must not be updaated after yesterday. Thanks goodness they don’t consider these types of rankings if it is indeed updated.

Dont see why NDSU should be ranked over Samford

North Dakota State
Record: 8-2, FCS Record: 8-1
D1 Wins: 7 (Drake, NC A&T, South Dakota, YSU, Indiana State, Illinois State, WIU,SIU)
FCS Losses: 1 (No. 1 SDSU), FBS Losses: 1 (Arizona record 4-8)
Then-Ranked Wins: 0, Now-Ranked Wins: 0
Massey SOS: 21st

Heck Furman has then ranked win over ETSU, now ranked wins over Chatt and Mercer
and a similar SOS massey 25th

dont sell the SOCON short

Listen to the Committee Chair podcast.

He mentioned specific things - such as the Coaches Poll and the Simple Rating System that they do use…the things that have been officially published that they are supposed to use…without expressing ANY enthusiasm for them, but when he talked about the RAC’s (Regional Advisory Committees) and ‘all other data’ he seemed much more enthusiastic. FUBeAR’s takeaway from him speaking on the topic was that each Committee Member can use whatever data they like, weight it however they like, and then Rank/Vote however they feel like it…could be fierceness of mascot and/or uniform design that sways a committee member to cast the deciding vote which leaves some deserving Team sitting at home eating turkey on Thanksgiving weekend instead of playing football.

Also worth noting that the only team to beat Samford this season is UGA - who is clearly the #1 team in the FBS.
