That Mercer/Gardner Webb game may actually be more interesting than I originally anticipated. I have not kept up closely with the Runnin Bulldogs, but that may be a stingier out of conference opponent for Mercer than originally anticipated.

GWU is 1-2, but lost by 4 to Coastal Carolina and 6 to Elon, both on the road. Looks like former Mercer Coach Tre Lamb has GWU playing scrappy football.

agree - losing by 4 to Coastal is impressive ! And then the Elon score is strong too. I know, I know, moral victories but Coastal is a good FBS team. And Gardner Webb outgained Coastal by 140+ yards or so !! They just kept turning it over - 5 times. To stay within 4 of any team (much less FBS) after 5 turnovers is crazy. Honestly outplayed Coastal from little bit I can tell.

Mercer better watch out. Im pulling for our conference brother - just saying they better be ready. This will easily be the best FCS team they have played to date.

Illinois picked preseason BIG #11. Good RB Brown. QB Devito transferred in after 8 years at Syracuse Chatt OL looks sluggish. QB transfer Hutchinson looks skittish. Offense not really threatening Illinois. Ford has no room to run. Hard to tell anything about Chatt receivers because Hutchinson can’t get them the ball. Announcer confirming Chatt is Transfer U. Comparatively (so far at 31-0) not showing up against Illinois like we did against #5 Clemson.

Yep not representing too well. Made a couple critical mistakes early that hurt. QB trying to throw when getting hit deep in Illini and gets it picked off when 10-0. Just can’t make mistakes in games like these.

Unless you think Illinois is a lot better than Clemson or Georgia, you can’t put Chattanooga at the top of your SoCon PowerRankings.

They have issues in the OL (which FUBeAR noted against lowly Wofford) and as a business partner of FUBeAR’s used to say, their Secondary “hasn’t seen the ball since Kickoff.”

So much familiarity and crossover among Coaches AND Players in this game. Could almost be 1 Team of Runnin’ BearDogs scrimmaging themselves. But, despite what we read here from time to time, Mercer is a very talented Top 15 Football Team. G-W has 0 D1 wins and was 4-7 last year.

Um, crazy not to want Adrian Hope back. That's just reality. There is a reason he was so unstoppable early in career and was the starter over the guys we have now.

Hope is a pass rush specialist that is not adept against the run or in coverage. It's a good role for an 85 scholarship team but not really ideal in FCS. Hope generally started but did a lot of time sharing, as continues now.

On an every-down basis, Clark is better.
