Not sure if you can read much into team height and weight comparisons.
That said—Furman has narrowed the size gap in the trenches when Furman plays an FBS opponent.
Clemson is an elite defensive line - and their size comes with elite athletic ability.
Clemson D-line; DE 6-4 255, DT 6-5 305, DT 6-2 300, DE 6-5 275 - I highlighted Bryan Bresee, I do love watching him play.
Furman's O-line size-wise is impressive, and for an FCS school, their size isn't bloated - our guys are athletes and are well-coached. I'm unsure what difference it will make, but I believe Furman's O-Line is better than GTs.
Furman O-line; LT 6-5 301, LG 6-3 276, C 6-4 280, RG 6-3 293, RT 6-3 297, TE 6-4 240, 6-2 221 - I highlighted the combo of Tomlin and Johanning - IMO Furman's most athletic linemen. I also highlighted Toomey on the right side and Gissinger at TE. I'm just stating the obvious for Furman to have any success in the running game, those highlighted players are critical.
Furman will have some size advantages in the matchup with Clemson. Furman will not show up with undersized runningbacks. 5-11 231, 6-1 215, 5-11 216, 5-9 193, 6-0 218 - I highlighted Roberto and Abrams, and Hicks and Thomas. Can Furman get any of these players into the second level of the Clemson D? I'm curious how JR will use Anderson in this game.
Where Furman could make things interesting is Furman's receivers against the Clemson backfield. Clemson's defensive backfield is athletic and fast. Size wise they're not big; CB; 6-0 200, 6-0, 190, SS 6-0 185, FS 6-1 205. Furman will roll out 6-2 222, 6-2 182, 6-2 201, 6-1 186 and 5-9 200. Can Furman buy Huff enough time to make some throws?
Furman, no doubt, is going up against a superior team Saturday - that said, I don't think this Furman is a typical FCS opponent coming into Death Valley. I hope our men soak in the atmosphere, play fiesty, and not be intimidated.
