Not gonna quote…

* San Diego has won 2 Playoff games over Big Sky Teams (2016 & 2017) and beat Harvard in 2019, Princeton in 2014
* Jacksonville beat CAA top-tier (usually) Delaware.
* Dayton beat the OVC’s Eastern Illinois in 2021 & the MVFC’s Indiana State and the NEC’s (now Big South) Robert Morris in 2019 (and in 2018 & 2016 & 2015 & 2014 2013…along with Duquesne (2015 & 2013)), another NEC Team). The Flyers also beat the OVC’s SEMO in 2017 and Kennesaw in 2015 and Patriot League Georgetown in 2014.
* In 2020, Davidson was leading #21 ranked Elon with 32 seconds to play and gave up a TD pass to lose by 3.

0 outcomes of non-fixed (if ‘fixed FCS games’ even exist) games are pre-determined.

PFL Teams winning games is good for PFL & FCS Football.
Doesn’t mean FU should join the PFL.
Johnny Depp won a lawsuit against an ex-wife. Doesn’t mean FUBeAR wants to marry him or date the same women he does.

You will have to practice the art of deep self-examination to determine your position with regard to transitive properties. FUBeAR cannot do that for you.

No idea of the financial terms. Would imagine Montana State is picking up some travel costs. Just a guess though. As both are state schools, you may consider filing a FOIA request for the Morehead State @ Montana State contract, if it’s not readily available at the procurement websites of either university…wait…FBGIFY…

“The Morehead State Eagles will travel to take on Montana State in Bozeman on Sept. 3, 2022. Montana State will pay Morehead State a $250,000 guarantee, per the contract copy.”

Athlon Sports' Preseason FCS Top 25 for 2022 (CRAIG HALEY’s ranking)
https://athlonsports.com/college-footb ... op-25-2022

1. North Dakota State (14-1, 7-1 Missouri Valley)
2. South Dakota State (11-4, 5-3 Missouri Valley)
3. Montana (10-3, 6-2 Big Sky)
4. Montana State (12-3, 7-1 Big Sky)
5. Missouri State (8-4, 6-2 Missouri Valley)
6. Sacramento State (9-3, 8-0 Big Sky)
7. Southern Illinois (8-5, 5-3 Missouri Valley)
8. Villanova (10-3, 7-1 CAA)
9. Kennesaw State (11-2, 6-0 Big South)[Now ASUN/WAC]
10. Stephen F. Austin (8-4, 4-2 AQ7) [Now ASUN/WAC]
11. Holy Cross (10-3, 6-0 Patriot)
12. Chattanooga (6-5, 5-3 Southern) - In a deep SoCon, the Mocs may have the most talent. Their defense is the conference's best, returning Player of the Year Devonnsha Maxwell on the edge and linebackers Ty Boeck and Jay Person. Returning QB Cole Copeland or transfer Preston Hutchinson will get the ball to Ailym Ford and Reggie Davis, who combined to rush for 1,924 yards and 20 TDs, and tight end Chris James is a red-zone weapon.
13. Weber State (6-5, 5-3 Big Sky)
14. Rhode Island (7-4, 4-4 CAA)
15. Eastern Washington (10-3, 6-2 Big Sky)
16. UIW (10-3, 7-1 Southland)[Now ASUN/WAC]
17. Mercer (7-3, 6-2 Southern) - Motivation isn't a problem after last season: The Bears fell just short of their first SoCon title and playoff bid. Neither is talent: They return seven of their top eight tacklers, including first-team all-conference selections Solomon Zubairu (defensive end) and Lance Wise (safety), and a veteran offense that features quarterback Fred Payton and running back Fred Davis (14 TDs).
18. ETSU (11-2, 7-1 Southern) - Former Furman offensive coordinator George Quarles is the new head coach, replacing the retired Randy Sanders. Even with the loss of 1,500-yard rusher Quay Holmes, the defending SoCon champion returns 1,000-yard rusher Jacob Saylors, quarterback Tyler Riddell, and top receiver Will Huzzie. Cornerback Alijah Huzzie is only a redshirt sophomore, but he's one of the Bucs' best players already.

19. Southeastern Louisiana (9-4, 6-2 Southland)
20. Delaware (5-6, 3-5 CAA)
21. Northern Iowa (6-6, 4-4 Missouri Valley)
22. Jackson State (11-2, 8-0 SWAC)
23. William & Mary (6-5, 4-4 CAA)
24. Eastern Kentucky (7-4, 4-2 AQ7)[Now ASUN/WAC]
25. Elon (6-5, 5-3 CAA)

5 More Teams to Watch [appear to be listed in alphabetical order - FUBeAR]:
Furman (6-5, 4-4 Southern)
Harvard (8-2, 5-2 Ivy)
Murray State (6-5, 3-3 Ohio Valley)
North Dakota (5-6, 3-5 Missouri Valley)
Richmond (6-5, 4-4 CAA)
That's a start. Good to be in the teams to watch rather than not watch.

FWIW - Strength of Schedule Rank as determined by 2022 opponents’ 2021 win percentage of then-Division I-classified opponents (FBS and FCS) https://theanalyst.com/na/2022/06/fcs- ... KbFK70rZJQ

SoCon below…

10. Samford (Southern) – .570 (73-55), 11
T12. Wofford (Southern) – .563 (71-55), 11
43. Furman (Southern) – .509 (57-55), 10
T44. The Citadel (Southern) – .509 (58-56), 10
T77. Mercer (Southern) – .472 (59-66), 11
83. VMI (Southern) – .460 (57-67), 11
95. ETSU (Southern) – .445 (49-61), 10
98. Western Carolina (Southern) – .443 (54-68), 11
108. Chattanooga (Southern) – .423 (52-71), 11

FUBeAR doesn’t love the ranking methodology for many reasons…because of the ‘circular reference’ effect and the fact that a Team ‘helped’ their 2022 SoS by losing to Teams in 2021 that also appear on their 2022 schedule. SoS calculations, particularly in FCS, where there is much disparity in Teams AND very little non-regionalized play, it’s really hard. MVFC & Big Sky Teams (and as a Conference) get too much SoS ‘cred’ and SoCon Teams gets too little, IMO…how much too much and how much too little depend on how the calculation is derived.

Furman will be the automatic qualifier from the SoCon. ETSU won't make the playoffs. ASUN-WAC beats itself up and only gets two bids. He's dead-on with the 5 Valley pics, but I don't see both Sac St AND Weber making it. Furman is everyone's "pivotal" game and it aint gonna go well for most of them.

The Bluebloods (whoever/whatever they/it is/are) pre-season rank the FCS this-a-way…

The inaugural Bluebloods Preseason FCS Top-25 is officially here. https://thebluebloodspod.com/bluebloods ... _PxqjgWCeQ

The MVFC leads all conferences with 6 ranked programs, while the Big Sky follows closely behind with 5 ranked programs.

1. North Dakota State
2. South Dakota State
3. Montana
4. Montana State
5. Missouri State
6. Sacramento State
7. Kennesaw State
8. Stephen F. Austin
9. Southern Illinois
10. Villanova

11. East Tennessee State - ETSU will look to defend their 2021 SoCon title as new head coach George Quarles takes over for Randy Sanders after his retirement this offseason. Tyler Riddell returns at the quarterback spot for the Buccaneers as 1,000-yard rusher Jacob Sayers steps into the lead running back role after the departure of All-American Quay Holmes. The defense will have to replace multiple top contributors, but will be led by Freshman All-American Alijah Huzzie and SoCon All-American Jalen Porter.

12. Delaware

13. Chattanooga - The Mocs will look to make their first playoff run since 2016 and will be one of the favorites to win the SoCon title for the first time since 2015. The defense ranked #1 in the SoCon last season and All-American Devonnsha Maxwell might be one of the most feared defensive ends in the country. Ailym Ford returns after his 1,000-yard rushing season and Eastern Michigan transfer Preston Hutchinson could be a huge addition at the quarterback spot for the Mocs.

14. Jackson State
15. Incarnate Word
16. UT Martin
17. Holy Cross

18. Mercer - Mercer is primed to compete for their first SoCon title since joining the conference in 2014. The Bears return quarterback Fred Payton and Freshman All-American Fred Davis on the offensive side of the ball. The defense was extremely young last season, which is why the Bears return almost the entire defense from the 2021 season. The Bears return three All-SoCon selections on the defensive side of the ball, which will be led by FCS All-American safety Lance Wise.

19. Eastern Washington
20. Southeastern Louisiana
21. Eastern Kentucky
22. South Dakota
23. Northern Iowa
24. Weber State
25. Monmouth

Honorable Mentions: Richmond, Murray State, Tennessee State, Elon, Florida A&M

…like having 3 SoCon Teams in the Top 18…still don’t get how Chatt is ranked ahead of Mercer.

Preseason stuff in the FCS is usually throwing darts at a wall.

Elon gets an honorable mention as a 6-5 CAA team. Elon lost to Wofford, which most of the SoCon pummeled. Tennessee State was a 5-6 OVC team.

It's good to see three SoCon teams in the top 20. I'm biased, but I think Furman has a decent shot to be better than all three of those teams.

There's Elon again.

Someone has to make that make sense to me. Elon did finish 3rd in the CAA, but they were 6-5, had virtually no impressive wins, and were blown out by the only two good teams in their conference. They lost to Wofford at home, who was 0-10 in the SoCon and 1-11 for the season (Wofford's lone win was over Elon). They beat Campbell by 1 point, an eventual 3-8 team in the Big South.

What's even nuttier is that this poll puts Delaware over Elon. Delaware finished behind Elon in the CAA standings last season and finished with a losing record.

I guess James Madison still carried a lot of water for the CAA last year.
