4.3 secs when shot clock stopped. Ball was imbounded, player turned and took step and still 4.3. Shot left hand around .5 left. Slow clock operator probably cuased .5 to be left in clock

and here is another thing per the Chat area stations

On the sideline, head coach Lamont Paris was frantically rushing towards the official and waving, presumably trying to signal for a timeout, but Jean-Baptiste either didn't see or didn't care.

You can see the coach on the court. Thanks Refs

Nah
there is no doubt the clock started late.
No more than 1 or 2 tenths (human reaction time) after he caught ball & he released final shot with 5 tenths left. Outcome not affected by clock operator.

Uh. Paladins lost. No use in quibbling.
A foul would have been hazardous. Jean-Baptiste, being quite the veteran of these wars, would've tried to get off something akin to a shot no matter where he was fouled. That would have been 3 shots. Foster, a fine defender, was on him and did all he could, given the above, so he stood up straight and tried to get a hand up to distract as best he could.
Furman didn't play it wrong. It's just that there was no right. -- MD

Couple the above with the 100% FG %age in OT and you have the basis for all the FU sympathy. No matter how many ways you replay the “what-ifs”, in OT when it mattered most the Paladins were perfect.

Add the 42 year draught for the mid-major and you have a classic “gates of hell” story where at literally the last instant the “good guys” come up short. I’m still devastated it happened to our fearless warriors - true “scholar athletes” - and our gallant coach, but in the final analysis it makes for a damn fine story to introduce this March Madness season.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
