1. I am a as big a CBR fan as there is. I believe he made a huge mistake Wednesday night calling off the dogs so early against Citadel. Citadel scored 109 today fueled by their strong finish Wednesday. Regardless of who is playing getting outscored by 24 is not a positive way to end the game. It just seemed to take the winds out of our sails. It carried over to today with the lackluster perfomance. I said Wednesday I hoped that didn’t come back to haunt us and it did.
2. Apparently FU is the only team the UNCG defense bothers. The last 3 games they have given up 76 in a win over ET, given up 85 to Wofford in a 21 point loss, given up 76 in an 11 poInt loss to VMI.
3. Arguably 3 untimely fouls in the last seconds have cost FU 3 games. Fouled a 3 point shooter, up 3 with 7 seconds left, at Belmont lose in OT. Foul a utc player 30 feet from the basket with 7 seconds left and the shot clock at 2 seconds, lose by those 2 free throws. Today foul a non-shooter, 30 seconds left with a one point lead, lose by those freethrows. Makes you want to chew nails. Win those 3 which we prolly should and we would be 20-5.
4. If we had pulled it off today it would have been the greatest comeback in FU history.
5. The last 5 games we were playing lights out. Today we shot liked the lights were off.
6. The ETSU game now is a MUST win since the margin for error ended with today’s loss. A loss Monday will pretty much make the UTC game meaningless as far as the regular season championship goes.
7. Mental toughness. That’s what it comes down to now. A tremendous comeback win in a game by all terms should have been a loss could have catapulted this team to bigger and better things. Getting into that position and then giving it away will be really hard to come back from.
8. Not sure if getting back on the court quickly Monday will be good or bad. We will see.
9. Never a bigger game than the next one and this one is huge. It’s all on the line, crunchtime. Will we finish the season strong or limp to the finish line.
10. We have a great veteran team and a great coach, hoping they respond with guns blazing.

Actually like your post. Even so, I’ve come to the conclusion that the regular season does not really matter because we ARE going to win the SoCon tournament. I cannot explain other than to just say I believe that we are. And the one possible advantage of losing more games in regular season is that may be what enables us to hold on to CBR for one more season - unless we do extra well in the Big Dance.
In the next to last sentence in “3.”, did you mean “choose nails” (?) or “chew nails.””?

One other thing, what a huge 3 point shot from GH. Shame we blew it after he put us ahead. Our 2 day stay in first place was nice.

Not really dropping like a rock in Kenpom, will have to wait on the NET. This team is more capable than any SOCON of putting three good games together in the tourney. Of course they are capable of tanking one also, as we saw today.

From 62 to 69 so far in Kp. Prolly fall from 65 to 75-80 in the Net.

After all the games today ended at 68 in kenpom, down 6 spots. Don’t think the NET will be as kind.

Why does no one ever reference Sagarin, even if it is not the most accurate or most sophisticated indicator? I happen to like seeing FU so clearly shown as #82 in the nation, above so many high profile schools.

Kenpom rating still good. So glad we made the comeback and made the score respectful. Otherwise, the game was a big disappointment as we were on a roll. Have to find the energy again for 4 quarters. Socon regular season and tourney will be a big challenge. I believe CBR has the right perspective and will get the team ready to play Monday night.

I thnk you answered your own question, FU is ranked higher in both kenpom and the NET. Why don’t you like seeing FU ranked #69 in kenpom and #76 in the Net and ranked above so many high profile schools? Sagarin has FU rated lower than anyone.

Thoughts? My thought: a team that can rally from a 17-point deficit rather than give up is a very good team.

Per the NET Dins are still best Team in SC

The way SD sees it, Dins are right where they were 1 week ago. Chatty lost one they shouldnt and Dins lost one they shouldnt. Still the top 2 teams in the SoCon

On to ETSU, need to flush this one (which one? (forgot already) and on to the next one

Agree but what a huge boost if they could have won. Not sure coming so close to pulling it off and then giving it back will be positive or not. Hopefully they will get over it quicker than I have. :D
