A little disappointed to see Andrew Brown not playing. He was dressed and participated in pre-scrimmage warm ups but did not enter the scrimmage. This boy has been through an awful time and it is bound to take some time before he is up to game speed. I hear he is making very good progress. IMO, he is critical to the success of this team. We lost a lot of scoring from last year and Andrew has the capability of making up much of that IF he decides to shoot his excellent 3 pointer more. His shooting percentage certainly calls for it.

Jalen Williams seems a lot more comfortable on offense. Set some high "roadblock" picks and cut well to the hoop off of them several times. He is a monster rebounder and excellent defender who looks like he is slated for a lot more PT. Could be a huge factor for FU.

Tre Clark is vastly improved after his red shirt year both offensively and especially on defense. At one point we were practicing some zone trapping and he was a ballhandler's nightmare playing guard on the top of the zone. Very long and very athletic. This kid could be a real stopper against some of the really good SoCon guards.

Really like the look of Jayson Pugh at the point. Excellent court sense with good penetrating dribble. He is a head up, pass first point guard (the best kind) but has a nice smooth left handed jumper to go along with that skill. Looks to be an immediate contributor.

I've been wondering about Clark, happy to hear he's progressing. Also been wondering about Shaw and how they planned to use him. Is he a W,SF, or is he to be an inside guy?

My mistake, I been calling him Shaw and it's Slawson. The 6-7 freshman from Charleston.

Shaw? Do you mean Jalen Slawson?

I really enjoyed the scrimmage. This looks like an athletic group. I was very impressed with Noah Gurley and Mike Bothwell.

I also like what Clark offers. It’s nice to have a guard with that kind of length.

A side note—I appreciate the team taking the time to thanks fans after the scrimmage. Those small things matter.

Gotcha. To be honest with you, I did not see anything special from him during the hour I was there. He does not have the body for inside work right now but he will certainly mature and hit the college weight room. If they redshirt one of the freshman, I would think it would be him. Noah Gurley and Clay Mounce are similar players and are, of course, more advanced than Slawson. Tough to tell from one scrimmage though.

My observations which were posted in the other thread.

First things that occurred to me after watching today:

Noah Gurley will be an important part of our success this year.

Coach doesn’t have anyone who he can redshirt. The freshmen looked solid. If they can continue to improve, it will be interesting.

Who will back up Hunter at pointer? Two freshmen Bothwell and Pugh. Let’s see which one separates himself from the other.

We have three Jalen/Jaylen. That’s too many.

I guess I had forgotten how well Hunter penetrates. He got to the rim several times.
