1. Alex Hunter is having a great season!
Great job Alex.
2. Slawson is also having a very strong season. He has really improved. I wish he would shoot more 3’s.
3. Even though Garrison missed an open 3 which might have lead us to a victory tonight, I really like him, and he has been a huge addition to the team.
4. We have one player who has been a huge disappointment this season. I do not understand.
5.We have one player who is terribly terribly inconsistent.

The good news. :
If everyone plays up to their potential, we can win the So Con.

The bad news :
We are inconsistent as a team, and therefore we could lose to anyone on a given night.

Go Dins

100 %.

The word for the team so far for the year is INCONSISTENT but we will see what happens.

True but the same could be said for virtually every team in the country.

True but the “gap” between the highs and lows is wider for FURMAN than many teams. I think it applies to southern Conference type teams more than ACC type teams. Isn’t it true that almost by definition, the better you are as a player, the more consistent you are?

A few more OBSERVATIONS
- Recruiting. Alex is emerging as a scoring threat, JP has had some good minutes, Repass has potential, Tyrese is getting ready. Also, Conley was a huge pickup. His defense, shooting, passing and team player mentality are superb. Next years recruits look good as well.
- Coaches. We had a disappointing first half. Conventional thinking is lets go big against their bigger team. CBR and staff went small in the second half and we almost won. They went David against Goliath. It was the adjustment we needed that night with our team against that opponent. We have a great staff and there are lessons to be learned. As CBR says we need to trust each other.

I checked the OOC schedules of some of our college bb bluebloods and the results are below:

Duke - 1 true ooc road game at Ohio St. which they lost.
UNC - 1 true ooc road game at Charleston which they won.
Kentucky - 1 true ooc road game at Notre Dame which they lost.

The above teams other 2 bigtime games are on neutral courts. All other ooc games are home games. I'm not saying they are not good teams and I'm not revealing anything we all don't already know. But...

Furman, on the other hand, like most Mid-Majors, has played 7 true road games, which include 2 ACC and 1 SEC teams out of 12 games and handled themselves quite respectably. If Louisville, UNC, and Ms State had to make a return visit to Greenville things might turn out differently for Ms and UNC and L might have 2 L's. Especially with the current state of Homer Refs, as DR so eloquently likes to point out.

My point is, the current methodology of selecting NCAA Tournament Teams is so heavily stacked in favor of the Power 5 with this Quad 1, Quad 2 bulls***. The SoCon deserves at least 2 and maybe 3 teams in the big dance, depending on how they perform the rest of the year. The problem is they will beat up on each other so no team usually has a good enough won-lost record by the end of the season, etc.

It is my belief that this current Furman team, if they played in the ACC, would have a winning record at the end of the season.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Think you are correct about the ACC. It is very weak this year, some really bad teams, and a lot of average teams. Evidenced by the fact Duke is the only ACC team currently in the top 25.

Wow.
That would be like if Alabama or Georgia were to be the only top 25 SEC team in college football. Doubt that ever happening any time in the next 50 years.

That would really be a hoot. All those Power 5's having to play those mid-majors on neutral courts. Could be a massive amount of "upsets". That's one reason it probably will never happen. And I'm not sure the NCAA Tourney would be as interesting as it is now if it took on that format. There might be too many games and too many bad teams in to make it interesting.

If you want a good laugh, go read the Carolina message board. After their performance yesterday against UK, they are ready to fire Coach D and then have him shot and then commit hari-kari. :D :D

Only 2 added rounds.
But admittedly 192 more games to “need to pay attention to”, so you may be correct about dilution of interest. Sort of like all the overabundance of FBS bowl games, except that instead of the winners of all those having to play again and risk the possibility of ending their season with a loss, they get to return home and bask in their “glory” for the next 8 months plus.
