As far as scheduling is concerned, there is absolutely no reason to schedule up or get a tough ooc schedule. The committee has proven they only look at wins and it doesn’t matter who you beat or lost to. Good example is FU made the playoffs in 2019 without beating a winning team. Get to 7 D1 wins you have an excellent chance, win 8 games you’re in. The goal is to get 2 ooc wins and go 6-2 in SoCon. This is why you can’t schedule a non D1 opponent in an 11 game season.

Wofford reportedly firing five assistant coaches. https://footballscoop.com/news/wofford- ... ff-changes

Because when you're 1-10, it's definitely the TE coach that's the problem.
Sounds like Conklin is trying to save his butt.
Feels like Wofford has too much money tied up in Conklin to let him go, so they are making changes on the margins that likely won't have any significant impact.

Wofford has won 2 games in 2 years. Since they lost to KSU at home in the 1st round of the 2019 Playoffs on 11/30/19, they have been mostly abysmal.

Their issues run much deeper than a few Assistant Coaches. Perfect time to use the ‘reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Titanic’ metaphor.

I was trying to find some silver lining for Wofford, but I don't really see one. Their offense was bad. Their defense was bad.

Furman wasn't gangbusters all season, but at least we saw some promising moments. I think Wofford fans just watched the same movie over and over this season.

I know Furman fans will occasionally gripe about coaching. That's part of fandom, I guess. Let me say this--having a steady hand on the tiller who is both a good football coach and good ambassador for the university is huge for Furman.

At this level, you make a bad hire as a head coach and you can't just buy out a contract like P5 schools. You put the wrong guy in charge, and you're looking at long road back at a school that can't just transfer in a new lineup.

Wofford could afford to buy Conklin out (pretty sure he only has 1 more year on his contract)…

Conklin’s 2019 Comp

JOSH CONKLIN HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
Base compensation | Retirement deferred comp | Nontaxable benefits | Total
290,387 | 25,200 | 20,285 | 335,872

They’re just too arrogant to admit that they tanked their Football program as they, essentially, ran Ayers off, ignored his recommendations/advice about his replacement, and hired the son-in-law of the right-hand-man of their 2nd largest donor instead.

That seems as likely as anything.

Leaking that half your coaching staff will be released two weeks before signing day seems . . . ill advised.

First round of FCS playoffs happened yesterday.

Two teams from the previously invincible MVFC lost, including 6-5 UNI. Missouri State lost to UT-Martin as well.

Florida A&M received a rare MEAC at large bid. They were promptly blown out. All of those results are disappointing for the SoCon, whose second team probably could have done at least as well if not better.

Kennesaw State easily handled Davidson. They'll head up to ETSU.

Several ex-SoCon players played Saturday - Oladokun for SDST and several ex-WCU players played for SIU.

I think we are better than at least 4 teams in the playoffs. That would be Davidson, Sacred Heart, Holy Cross, and FL A&M. I think we would hold our own against UT Martin, SE LA, Montana St. and Kenn St. and did against ETSU which we had beat until we mucked it up. Mercer, VMI, and Chatty are better too, but I can't prove it.

We may be closer than anybody thinks but its hard to tell since our only FCS losses were to SoCon teams.

We are one good QB away from being verygood and that QB may very well be Jace.

Would CCH take a Liam Welch quality Grad transfer if he could land one and let J redshirt next year?

UTM beat MiseryState, whose Fans (along with their MVFC Co-Conspirators & MVFC media shills) were apoplectic that their 8-3 (including a loss to a 3-7 Team) Team did not get a Top 8 Seed (surprisingly), with the Skyhawks starting QB out hurt. I think he was OVC OPOY & they lost the only FCS game that he previously didn’t play to a 4-7 OVC Team. So…FUBeAR thinks it makes sense to conclude that MoState is actually worse than a 4-7 OVC Team.

Interestingly, their Fans (along with their MVFC Co-Conspirators & MVFC media shills) are now trying the Chattanooga tactic of imagining that they didn’t really lose the game because they had 6 turnovers, so…FUBeAR guesses they will imagine themselves playing @ Montana State next week…gonna see if FUBeAR can get a bet down on them imagining up a 2nd round win for themselves as well.

And…FAMU is SWAC now. They were runners up to Jackson State in the SWAC East, so they don’t play in the SWAC Championship Game or the SWAC vs. MEAC Celebration Bowl / National Championship Game, and they don’t have a traditional Thanksgiving weekend game as other SWAC schools do. In other words, the Rattlers didn’t have any of their preferred options available, so their AD began campaigning on the platform that FAMU’s Student Athletes deserved equitable access and historic inclusion in the FCS Playoffs about a month ago. When they got to 7 FCS wins, FUBeAR inked them in as an At-Large bid. Didn’t catch that game, but checked the score/stats at half & SELA was up 24-0 and had outgained FAMU by over 300 yds to 100 yds. When the Lions pushed it to 38-0 and 400+ yds to still about 100 yds very early in the 4th, they completely called off the dogs & FAMU scored 2 TD’s in the last 5 minutes vs. SELA’s robotics intramural Team.

Yet…the FCS Playoff Selection Committee remains undefeated in being able to construct perfectly reasonable logic to justify choosing the Teams they have decided to select.

Just a note, but Samford lost to UT-M in a very close game earlier in the season. It looked as a bad loss at the time, but also potentially suggests some of the SoCon depth.

A lot of our collective hopes rest on ETSU. If they can somehow get rid of constant burr in the saddle Kennesaw, then that will help raise the profile some.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
