A few opening thoughts on ETSU.
1. I know everyone is fawning over statistics at the moment, and ETSU's offense puts up a healthy 36 points per game. Remember, though, that they played two bad out of conference teams, UVA-Wise and Delaware State, and Samford.
At the moment, Furman has played the significantly tougher schedule. NC State is much better than Vanderbilt, and our two FCS OOC games were much tougher than anyone ETSU faced.
2. Against common opponents, it is a bit of a toss up. We looked better against Wofford. They did better against the Citadel. The Citadel game was a 6 point contest until late in the 3rd quarter.
3. Notably, ETSU has played two SoCon road games and (1) beat Samford in OT and (2) lost to UTC. Their trip to Furman will be back to back SoCon road games for them, which they haven't done this season.
4. The only team that runs the ball more than the Bucs is the Citadel. They'll bring the SoCon's leading rusher, Quay Holmes, to Paladin Stadium. He get the ball 20+ times a game. Their No. 2 back, Saylors, will get the ball a bunch too.
5. Most of their passing attack goes to 1 guy - Will Huzzie. He gets the ball twice as much as any other player in the passing game.
6. In terms of scheming them defensively, right about 80% of all of ETSU's offensive yardage goes to those three players - Holmes, Saylors, Huzzie.
7. Defensively they are pretty stout, but their numbers are skewed a bit with their OOC schedule (Vandy, Wise, and DSU combined for 23 points in three contests). Against SoCon competition, the Bucs are surrendering close to 28 points. For comparison, Furman is giving up about 19.
