OK. Let’s see how it goes. He makes a mean handoff!

Weird. Neither team can catch his passes.

And Grainger is beating Auburn.

Just before half GA State with Darren Grainger at QB beating # 23 Auburn 17-12. A shame FU could not recruit a gifted QB like that. Oh wait!

Guess we will never know the reason HS was chosen over DG but based on performance on the field it was a mistake. Oh well , that is way behind us now. A sadder thing would be to make the same mistake again.

Our back up QB looked far more mobile than our starter. He is however a true FR and game speed at this level is an enormous difference from what he has seen in HS. He put up large numbers in a big time TX district. We know what we have currently.. this kid needs to play.

Definitely a head scratcher that we made a change only after the third and possibly most bizarre interception that I’ve ever seen. Also why did he ply the red shirt and not LS? I thought LS was QB2.

HS was not chosen over DG. DG had issues that caused him to have to leave Furman.

Yep I’m sure he is regretting transferring to FU. Just doesn’t seem like FU can find a spot for him.

Of course the most popular player on the team is the backup QB. FU has many other problems besides QB but QB always stands out.

Ok, I've never believed that DG outrightly lost the QB fight and that was why he left. Yes, a lot of comments have implied that AFTER DG left the program. You're all familiar with coach speak...why do we have to be dumb about this?

/DG appears to have won the starting job at Georgia State in his first season there and just went toe to toe with a 23rd ranked SCE team... I don't think he would regret leaving Furman regardless of whether he won the starting job or not.

/He is only hitting 50% of his passes on a 1-3 team so I wouldn't say he his burning down the barn either.

//I think we would be strugging on offense even if we had Ingle Martin under center... It is on the coaches to make the parts come together and they just aren't.

Anyone who remembers 2003 knows we had an excellent group of running backs, an outstanding group of wide receivers, and a great trio of linebackers leading the defense. Despite the talent we struggled to a 6-5 overall record and 4-4 SoCon record. The next year we won the SoCon with a 6-1 record and 10-3 overall with most of the same players. Except we had Ingle Martin at QB. Same coaches, most of the same players. QBs can be kind of important.

In fact, in 2003 the defense only allowed about 14 points per game while the 2004 team allowed about 17 ppg. The 2005 team allowed over 27 ppg but had an even better overall record - 11-3, probably due to the 35 ppg the Martin lead offense scored.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
