If FU and A&T win, then we are probably pretty dang good.

If they both lose, then I feel like that indicates that we are probably about like we were in the Spring. No compelling evidence of dramatic improvement. But still good enough to win the SoCon with lots of luck.

Clemson @ NCSU on Sat. might provide a bit of triangulating barometric info as well.

Based on what I saw in Tiger town last Saturday, I will be surprised if State doesn't win Saturday. Clemson is experiencing the very same issues we saw in the spring. Their offense is a mess right now.

I realize I'll be called an optimist, but we look a lot better than we did in the spring. A lot of little things that were consistently problematic in the spring look like they have been addressed. We still have some execution issues on offense, but I think we've improved significantly.

I expect by season's end the A&T win will look like a good victory for us. Based on what I've seen the first few weeks, it would not surprise me to see NC State as the ACC front runner.

I agree that we look better than we did in the spring, albeit not as great on offense as we had hoped. We're going to have to run the ball consistently better to challenge for the SoCon title.

My preseason hope was that our offense could get us somewhere in the 26-28 points per game area. Personally, I think that if we can hit that marker, we'll win the vast majority of our games.

To this point, we played one really solid offensive game (A&T). The TTU game wasn't bad from an offensive standpoint, it just felt like it could have been more.

I'm not going to make too much or too little of NC State. We didn't look good offensively, but I think that has a lot more to do with the opponent than anything else.

I agree with you, though. I think we've gotta find ways to get the running game going.

Clempson still has a stellar defense. They still have not given up an offensive TD. If NC St stuggled to score 10 points on a very mediocre Miss. St. team will they score on CU? Their QB had all day against FU he won’t against CU. Hope ncs wins but doubt it.

Front runner? I’ll admit I thought they were good after they blew out USF but it turns out USF is awful. Then they looked bad against a mediocre Miss State. Sure they blew out the Paladins but that isn’t enough to make them ACC favorites. This would be the year for somebody to knock of Clemson, but I think they would be more vulnerable in the Big Sky than in the ACC.

Whose your frontrunner?

Clemson's scored two touchdowns in 8 quarters against FBS teams.
Duke lost to Charlotte.
GT lost to Northern Illinois and then almost beat Clemson
Miami has been throttled both by Alabama and Michigan State
Florida State lost to an FCS team and is winless.
Pitt lost to Western Michigan
VT lost to West Virginia
Louisville dominated by Ole Miss
UNC started as a top 10 team and lost in their opener

I mean, as best I can tell, there's not a whole lot to get excited about with the ACC. NC State seems like they have as good a shot as anyone.

ACC is really bad and this year they may not have CU to carry the flag.

Not that I think Louisville is great or anything, but what is so awful about being dominated by the number 16 or 17 team in the country, a team that also dominated Tulane who almost beat Oklahoma? Then Louisville beat UCF. NC State was pretty much dominated by a team that will never sniff the top 20.

Clemson is the CLEAR front runner. They barely lost to quite possibly the best team in the country. Anybody else in the ACC would have lost by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

Many or most ACC supporters would say it’s hypocrisy for fans of a member of the SoCon to be criticizing the ACC. Those ACC supporters would be right. Actually they would not say it, because they ignore the SoCon as irrelevant. I know we want to believe NC State is great and may win the ACC. We’ll have a better reading on that in a few days.
