I know this was a looooong time ago, but I remember a FU team that was shut out in our game with Clemson. I think it was the 89 team, one of the best ever FU teams. The score was 31-0 and we had something like a total of 130 yards on offense. Did not mean a dang thing as far as the rest of the season.

Yep it was 30-0 and Clempson was #12 in the country and it was close at the half 13-0 IIRC. CU scored late for the final score.

Did not see much competitiveness with Mercer. I don't know how serious Alabama even took the game. NC State took the game serious, I think they had heard enough of their losing record to Furman. The stadium was full and they were and are a lot better. UTC and ETSU, yes throw them a bone. Mercer does not get one.

y’know, DP. I was thinking about this & you may be right. I even found this picture of Coach Saban just chillin’ out in the 4th quarter. That vein about to burst in his neck pretty much proves your point.
