Jonathan Lawrence a 6-9 forward from Lake Howell HS in Fla just committed (per Twitter). Had offers from Fla and Ga Tech at one point.

From PrepHoops...

“6’9″ Lake Howell F Jonathan Lawrence racks up some offers and is now at No. 53.

Being a fundamentally sound big man certainly helps draw attention. Jonathan Lawrence is just that and a solid shooter for his size. He has 12 offers currently with UF the latest to extend an offer on Monday. His list also includes Rice, Georgia Tech, Brown, Dartmouth, MIT, UCF, Navy, Eastern Washington, Army, SE Missouri and Presbyterian.”

That is good news. MaxPreps has him ranked 459th in Florida.

I had heard he was on campus for an official on Friday. His dad played at Florida, and he is on track to be his class valedictorian. Colossal get for us.

Things are finally looking up for this offseason.

Here is a story from the Orlando newspaper dated Aug. 21 that says he had picked up an offer from Florida. It also mentions offers from UCF, Georgia Tech, Army, Navy, MIT, Dartmouth and Brown. Verbal Commits lists Presbyterian and Southeast Missouri State in addition to UCF and Army but not the others. The Orlando story says he is 6'10." Verbal Commits says 6'8." 247Sports says 6'9." He is on track to be his HS Valedictorian with a 4.64 GPA. His father, Pat Lawrence, was a 6'7" forward for Florida from 1984-88 known for his outside shooting ability. His uncle, Joe Lawrence, still holds the record for best three point shooting percentage for a season (50.4% in 1986-87) for the Gators.

Seems to be very intriguing prospect with potential. Maybe needs some more muscle, but could be a great fit for our system.

Found some video highlights. Lawrence is long and lanky. He likes to dunk and block shots. Has a nice looking jump shot. Actually jumps on the jump shot which some big guys don't. Skinny. Has some nice post moves. Plays with energy.

MaxPreps had his high school team ranked #459 in Florida. Which is appropriate for the team's 3-19 record.

Amazing coincidence they had the player also rated #459.

Neither of those rankings are particularly high. Not that I put much stock into those sorts of things . . . different sources seem to vary on Lawrence's offers as well, but in any case his video looks pretty good.

6'9 2019 Jonathan Lawrence of Q6 All Stars (FL) is so offensively gifted. Pure jump shot with good athleticism & the ability to create Off 1 & 2 dribbles

6'9 2019 Jonathan Lawrence of Q6 All Stars (FL) is putting on a clinic at #PhenomSummerHavoc watch his stock explode! Mobile and so fluid
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The 6-9 stretch-4 has a feathery jumper from the perimeter. He is able to catch and shoot off of the move, because he has sound footwork coming off screens. Yet he battles with ferocity for rebounds on the interior. The combination of these skills and physical attributes should make Lawrence a high priority target for a number of programs this summer.
