Thanks Astro, 119 players, could be the largest squad ever. Here is the breakdown by my count:(coukd be wrong but close)
FRESHMEN….41 including 27 walkons
REDSHIRT FR..33 -many were/are walkons.
SOPHOMORE..12
REDSHIRT SO..12
JUNIOR………9
REDSHIRT JR..2
SENIOR………4
REDSHIRT. SR..6
Looks like an awfully young team on paper. Only 21 juniors and seniors. Freshmen, walkons and Redshirt freshmen make up over 62 percent of the team.

Seems like we've been a young team for the last 10 years.

There are a lot of PWO's sprinkled on the roster. Most of those PWOs had other PWOs so this wasn't just I'm going to walk on.

Tyler Reid is really interesting. Played for Ingle at CPA.

Also, I believe Makhai Reed is a late full scholarship signee.

If he is going to be apart does that mean he is not going to be a part of the family? 😂😂😂 Glad that he is fired up to be a Paladin.

Seems like more walkons than usual. Astro, your assignment now is to assess how many of those are guys we wanted (preferred) versus guys who just kinda want to play football. I’ve always wondered how you get walkons when you cost more than Harvard. Maybe, just maybe we are getting more creative with finding non athletic scholarship money for players. I’d actually have to give ED an attagirl if she’s letting us bend the rules a tad.

Not young…

R-SO’s & > have been in the program at least 3 years. There are 33 of those.
Essentially, you have 12 Sr’s/Sr+‘s & 21 Jr’s.

Including Special Teams, about 50 guys are going to play in an average game.

Having 33 experienced Players & getting contributions from about 15 or so Players from the 2 ‘younger’ classes is characteristic of a solid, veteran Team. Kind of irrelevant if there are 74 or 740 or 74,000 youngsters on the roster, as long as 15 or so can contribute this season.

Also, a lot of these kids gained an extra year of eligibility. So, class isn't really relevant to experience.

Right - so you can add another year in the program to many/most of these guys.

To be honest, with a few exceptions, if a kid isn’t ready to contribute substantially by his 3rd year in the program, most likely, he’s never going to contribute…substantially. They may not start their 3rd year (or ever) because they have Studs in front of them at their position, but they are capable if/when called upon & add depth/experience on Special Teams, and in the Locker / Meeting Rooms…or they don’t & probably won’t.

So…adding CovidYear…FU probably has 40-50 (or more) Recruited Players who will be in their 3rd year (or more) in the Program & they were all (I think) recruited by this Coaching regime. Being “young” (overall) will not be an excuse for FU Football in 2021 & I don’t believe we’ll hear Coach Hendrix ever say that about this Team. He may call out some youth or lack of game experience at certain positions, but, overall, this is a veteran Team with lots of experience & leadership.

I also think there's some roster "management," which all college programs seem to be dealing with - how do you accommodate a freshman class if everyone gained extra eligibility and some player didn't graduate?

Just on a quick scan, I noticed this play out at running back.

Wayne Anderson was in the 2019 class. He played as a true freshman in 2019. He's now listed as a redshirt sophomore. So, 2020 looks like it became his "redshirt" year.

Devin Abrams was in the 2018 class. He redshirted in 2018. He's also a redshirt sophomore.

So, Abrams was in the class ahead of Anderson and redshirted, but now they are in the same class. So, who knows.

This is the norm for most schools following covid. My son is a GA, and their program will have a higher number of players than FU. I heard Clemson will have their largest # of players this year as well. Lots of PWOs and WOs everywhere this year.

Oddity on the roster that may have previously been mentioned

There are 6 players identified as "fifth years" on the roster. These looks like guys that played this spring as "seniors" and received an extra season of eligibility.

Another 3 listed as "redshirt senior"

Another 3 listed as "senior."

Good article written by Eric Boynton in today's "Spartanburg Herald Journal" about Wofford's plan to continue using transfer portal and also emphasis on recruiting large number of good walk ons.
