VMI GAME THREAD
Went back and looked at the play by play. Didn’t realize it was as bad as it was. Hunter’s layup was our last basket with 6:12 to go and we had a 77-64 lead. We scored exactly 3 points after that. Got outscored 16-3. As Dan Scott says it was a collapse of biblical proportions. It was almost an impossible task to lose that game but we pulled it off. Either VMI or Mercer will be in the finals.

Did not get a chance to watch last night but kept up with the score on my phone app. 71-56 with 8:32 left. We got this. 77-64 at 6:30. O.K. Then 77-70. Uh Oh. Then 80-70. That's better. Then 80-80 and I couldn't believe it.
Watched the replay and we played well all the way up to 6:30. And I don't fault Coach R's strategy the last 3 minutes all that much. You need to slow down a little with a 10-13 pt. lead with under 4 minutes. We were running our offense and looking for shots the whole time, just trying to be more patient. I counted 3 shots from point blank range that did not go in. Only questionable shot was a fade away outside shot at 1:36. I do fault the 2 on 1 that was pulled back out. It was more a question of executing the half court offense at crunch time.
The bottom line was their defense was better than ours the last 6 minutes. Everything we shot was heavily contested. They were getting way too many open, easy shots and they also made some tough ones too.
And I'm not sure who was supposed to be covering Stephens, but he got 25 pts. and shot a good %. No way those guys get 80 points with Tough In-Your-Face-D! With some weak-side help!

Agree about Stephens! We had no answer for him. He was 4-6 from 3. The 3 he made to tie it with 30 seconds left was wide open. How can you leave him that wide open in that situation?
with a 30 sec clock and 3 mins, each team had 3 possessions. 10 pts was a 4 possession lead. 3 tres plus 1 2. If Dins had taken full 30 secs after each VMI possessin, VMI had to score 10 points in 90 MIns
It was a very improbable comeback
So far in 12 minutes VMI has 11 points against Mercer. They scored 10 in the last 3 mins. last night. Now Im mad again.
Sometimes its just not been to be. Stephens who killed us last night has 9 tonight and is 0-4 from 3 when he was 4-6 ladt night. VMI shot 82 percent from the free throw line last night, 60 percent tonight. 2-17 from three, they hit 10 last night.
