Also, Youngstown State loses to non-scholarship Butler. Not a huge impact on Furman, but may lessen the MVFC a bit when one of their traditional powers looked that bad.

No kidding, NDSU and JMU looked good - as expected -- but the rest of the FCS looked like a crap shoot. I think we can be right in the mix.

South Dakota (MVFC) is leading Kansas State by 12 late in the 3rd. Kansas State was 8-5 last year and started the year #30 in Massey. Maybe the MVFC will have less depth, but the top of that conference is still dominant within FCS.

That's not even the "good" team from South Dakota, which is South Dakota State.

Not a bad draw for Woffie to get another opening day conference game at home.

......and they get a cupcake next week at home with VMI, so they will be 2-0 right out of the gate.

Notes from other games today:

Toledo kicked a FG in the 4th up 63-3. Not very sportsmanlike.

Memphis out gained Mercer 752-174. Wow.(66-14).

WCU gave 451 yds. to Newberry and had to come from behind late to win.(33-26).

ETSU was tied with Mars Hill 7-7 with 2 mins to go in the 3rd, but got it going and won 28-7.

Also there were 4 FCS wins vs. FBS this week.

7 New Hampshire Wildcats
8 Jacksonville State Gamecocks

4 Bolded Teams will take quite a tumble & am moving FU up from #22 into the Top 15 on my AGS Poll (not allowed to say exactly where & NC A&T game with ECU may have some impact).

Furman's Starters played Clemson's Starters A LOT closer than the final score. Until the Home Cookin' started on a COOKIN' day in Death Valley, FU was IN the game. Also, as soon as Clemson began liberally substituting in the 2nd half, there were very few Starters on the field for FU as well. So...roll back the Home Cookin' points (14, IMO)...and what you have is...3 different games...

#1) Clemson's Starters & some 2nd Team Players beat Furman's Starters and some 2nd Team Players 13-0
#2) The Officials beat Furman's Starters and some 2nd Team Players 14-0 (or so...depends on the validity of the PF on the KOR...could go with 20-0 for #1 and 7-0 for #2...if you prefer)
#3) Clemson's 2nd-5th Team Players beat Furman's 2nd & 3rd Team Players 21-7

That's fine. All are about as expected. Wish #2 didn't exist and wish #1 outcome could have been a little bit better. If those were the case, we may not have seen #3.

Oh well....on to CRUCIFYING the Formerly Fightin' Former Christians!!!!

I was surprised to see Elon throw only 12 passes for 42 yds last night. I thought they were a passing team with a soph QB that passed a lot last year. Is this correct?

FUBear I don't see Kennesaw St. or Jacksonville St. tumbling very far. KSU barely lost to an FBS team. JSU lost to NC A&T but A&T just beat East Carolina.

KSU probably not. They lost to an FBS team, albeit an FBS team that routinely loses to FCS schools.

Jacksonville State will fall further. They play in a bad conference and lost to perhaps one of the only two good teams they'll face all regular season.

They've got two QBs. Cheek won the starting role last year and he is more of the passer. Former Furman commit Jalen Greene is more of a runner and gave us some trouble last year in Greenville.
