I think this is spot on and after a bit of hand wringing, I think we will all come to live with it. Because frankly it's better than not having college football at all. In this model, would you anticipate players being able to opt in or out of the school part similar to employees deciding if they want to pay for supplemental life insurance and other benefits?FUBeAR wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2020 3:15 pmThis is goofy & misses the real point.
The FUBeAR Plan, where P5 Football & Basketball Teams become Corporations affiliated with (including BoD Seats for Univ & Univ Ath Leaders) / licensed by Universities, is where we are headed. Players are employees of these corporations & their benefits plans include tuition reimbursement at their affiliated school.
How the remaining G5 Football & Basketball Teams & FCS Football are organized / conduct championships is TBD.
Absolutely - along with other Educational options - Trade Schools / Apprenticeships, etc.fufanatic wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 2:48 pmI think this is spot on and after a bit of hand wringing, I think we will all come to live with it. Years of eligibility is an interesting question in this model.Furmanoid wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 9:14 amIf they opt out of the school part, actual classes and grades and such, they would still get a degree, right? Limiting degrees to only those who go to school seems pretty heavy handed.
Would there be any eligibility requirements for freshmen? Obviously requiring a High School Diploma or GED would be pretty over the top, but what about basic literacy? I see no point in it. We had illiterate guys operating reactors at SRS for 40 years before anybody noticed. We want to see the best athletes on the field.
Finally, in the education-optional college football model, is there any logic to limiting eligibility to 4 years? Why not let them play as long as they can and then move on educated or not but with degree in hand?
