Add UofSC to the list.
The University of South Carolina will be cutting the salary of top administrators and sports coaches to brace for a difficult year ahead.

President Robert Caslen, members of his cabinet and the three highest paid coaches will all take a 10% pay cut for the 2020-2021 school year, the university announced Tuesday.

“The global health crisis will continue to have a significant impact on the university, and I applaud our university officials and coaches for their willingness to personally contribute to our institution’s financial health,” Caslen said.

Given the high salaries these administrators and coaches make, 10% is nothing. If I'm making $4-5 million, I'd have a hard time spending that much. 10% is a drop in the bucket.

AMEN brother. How about when a coach gets FIRED and gets a $7 MILLION dollar buyout. Let me get this straight.. he won the lottery for failing at his job?? And they say coaching is a high-pressure job. Where can I sign up to get millions for failing . Seriously. I'll take 'failure for 5 Million' Alex. And it takes 3 years to get fired. Example, Mike Young from Woff just got 2 or 3 million to coach VT. If he makes it 4 years he has 9 million dollars in earnings just over the past 4 years and there may be a multi-million dollar buyout if he fails !! (I don't know about that one on the buyout but I know he is getting 2million dollars or so

At least on the surface it looks like ECU got it right. FU did not. I know there are differences in the 2.
Go tell that to the ECU athletes that got cut.
Agreed no cuts are good. There may be and prolly are more cuts to come. So far of the 350+ D1 schools only a very few have found it necessary to go the chopping block route.

Right now the apaladin of ECU is apoplectic over the fact that “we cut SIX sports and Furman, 1/10th our size and PRIVATE, only cut TWO!”
Not to let facts get in the way but ECU cut 4 sports. TheIr move affected 68 athletes and FU affected 91 athletes.

If a school wants to negotiate that into a contract then it is fine. Both of our FBS big boys in SC have had to pay. Coaches no longer wanted also get creative by accepting other jobs . The staff at SCSU had 2 SEC coaches on it a few years ago. These guys got paid an FCS level salary but collected their $350k salary because the agreement did not include FCS schools. This is also why many guys take an analyst job for a year. Coaches are no different than any other job.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
