^^^ would love to know the story behind the two offers for Matthew Mahoney and Nasir Washington both play for Valley High School in West Des Moines, IA. Both are great looking prospects.

I thought it might be interesting to put a baseline down on 2021 recruiting - kudos to John for making this easy.
I'm going to make a guess that our coach's hard work on getting classes committed early allows them more time to evaluate underclassmen earlier and get offers out.

Based on the list of player's tweeted offers from John's efforts, Furman has 30 offers out there as of 3.6.2020
Below are some breakdowns.

TX - 6
NC - 6
AL - 3
FL - 3
GA - 3
TN - 3
IA - 2
DC - 1
MO - 1
SC - 1
VA - 1
In case your counting - we've offer players from 11 states.

Position breakdown.
OL - 6
TE/DE - 5
DE - 4
WR - 4
DL - 3
DB/WR - 2
TE - 2
ATH - 1
QB - 1
RB - 1
TE/LB - 1

Expanding our recruiting footprint makes me very happy. NDSU is getting a few guys from all over the country. It's worked for them. Let's try it on for size ourselves.

To me, what is most surprising, I think, is that you are seeing very few guys currently offered by the "usual suspects" in the Southern Conference.

Even with this last recruiting class, I do not believe we were head to head with many SoCon schools for just about anyone. None of the SoCon programs are spending much time at all in Texas. It seems that virtually all of these guys have offers from Ivies and Academies.

I do not know what is changed, but it would have floored me a few years ago to see us recruiting guys from Texas and Iowa.

Completely agree. Could it be that the coaching staff thinks that competing against SoCon schools for recruits will get you a first round exit in the playoffs ... and that the only way to compete with the elite of FCS is to expand the geographic footprint and battle the academies, Ivys and Gof5 teams for players?

Without a doubt...simply emulating the top programs in FCS. It's also helpful that we now have coaches on staff with previous connections in places like Texas, due to their time at other schools (most notable AFA).

Well, Kevin Lewis is having an impact on recruiting - it's an asset to have a coach with cred and deep roots in the recruiting hotbeds of VA and MD. Furman should provide an interesting contrast to CAA schools.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
