I know that many like playing the games in the downtown arena and I believe they have achieved some of the goals for which the concept was conceived. However, I believe we lose a lot of the intimacy that Timmons provides. Students at Timmons are literally feet from the floor, while downtown they are way behind the basket and on floor level (no risers). The season ticket holders are on the side behind the benches and scorers table and are even further removed from their proximity to the floor tan at Timmons. The vastness of the space also dampens any effect that fan noise might have. We can make these games work, but some reconfiguration of the seating, especially student seating, must be done.
I have said this all along. I think we have a better chance of winning a specific game against ETSU, UNCG and Wofford at Timmons vs. the vast BSWA. I certainly can see however the long-range benefit of playing games there.
I wonder what the players think-meaning where they would rather play. As much as Timmons is not a great bb facility, I have gotten used to it and think we have a home court advantage when it is packed-for instance the last time the gamecocks came to town and we whipped them.
Answer to your question is the players would rather play these big games at Bon Secours Arena downtown
I have a feeling many of you still on the fence will change your minds about this after you see the sea of purple at the 'Well' when we beat Wofford Feb. 22
We are going to have a huge crowd of Furman fans, its going to be fun and loud, we will win!
