UNC is a good school with several great graduate degrees. This dude probably does not plan on kicking in the NFL long-term (although I hope he tries), but instead is going to go get his Master's degree paid for. Good for him.

And no, Furman should not spend a bunch of money and time opening more graduate schools just to keep 5th year seniors who play sports around longer.
