Congrats to Orange Praavda , or the paper formerly known as The Greenville News, for a thorough investigation. Maybe Wooodward and Bernstein 2.0 can do this deep digging on the strong arm robbery by 3 Clemmers on a walk on player. This case was gently swept under the rug. Why was the walk on holding this money? What was the source of the money? Was the money connected to a 5'6" guy in the Charleston area that makes his money as a distribution guy in the Clemson area?

Having a bit of an insider's perspective at Furman, this is a big story both on campus and off campus. Abhorrent behavior - I can't believe that they actually managed to catch him.

How in the world this thread turned into an anti-Clemson, anti-GN fest is beyond me. Searching the Greenville News for the exact robbery you're talking about, I've found no less than 4 separate articles. Pretty sure they got it covered.

It's the Greenville News' job to report the news, not to be "a friend to Furman" or to portray anyone positively or negatively by default. This is an important story, and they have every right to write it. This event *shook* the Furman campus.

I know we're all salty about Clemson and how much coverage they get, but the their coverage is proportional to reader interest. A sizable percentage of the GN's readership is there for Clemson sports coverage. I'm guessing less than 1% is there for Furman sports stuff. Furman sports means nothing to the GN's bottom line. And yet Furman football still gets game previews, Top 25 poll movement articles, and game writeups every week. I know we'd all love some sort of special interest story on a Furman football player every week (which still does happen time to time), but that's literally throwing money away for a small town newspaper trying to stay afloat in a changing media world.

I agree with all you said. The others are guilty of the, “Yea, but what about” syndrome. This guy did some bad things and it should be reported. Good job by the Greenville News. At least they did give the dad the right to defend his son.

Appreciate your insight into what’s happening on campus. Agree with everything you said. Ultimately, I really hope that this student made a particularly dumb decision and doesn’t actually believe the things that he posted on the board. The world has no place for Nazi symbols. It’s not funny. It’s never been funny. And it will never be funny.

Never said this wasn't bad news. Furman will clean this up. Also never used the "yeah but what about them" card. The questions about why a young man had a large amount of cash above a refrigerator and why the players knew exactly where to go to get the cash were never asked. The plea came quickly. No digging occurred. No one ever asked how many times the 5'6" Charleston resident had been there or when he was due back. Could have been an SI level story but for some reason ....

G-News did their job. No issues there. They owe Furman no favors, nor do Furman folks owe the G-News any sense of loyalty as the hometown paper, which is a greatly diminished entity anyway, even after going all-in with the orange tribe many years ago. Their subscriber base is probably at-best half what it was 20 years ago in a hot market, most likely mirroring the plight of newspapers everywhere. It's all about clicks to Gannett when it comes to coverage. The G-News' coverage of Furman is on par with the the interest Furman folks have in the G-News. Marginal at best.

This is one FORMER player who twice failed to use sound judgement. Furman football will survive as have many outstanding programs who deal with these issues from time to time...and they all do.

That kid is a moron, glad he is out of the program never to be seen again, he only lasted 2 months

With that said, get off the G-News defense, that paper is trash and has been for years, their two biggest stories of Furman anything over the past 2 years has been this and the basketball player deal with Andrew Taylor. They never shed any positivity about Furman, they will never be worth a lick to Furman, quite the opposite actually. No matter, they will probably be out of business in a couple years anyways, good riddance.

So the kids Dad says it was all a joke gone bad.

I can tell ya, as a manager with 20+ years of experience managing large teams of people in different environments, I'd say the #1 cause of people getting "in trouble" is "trying to be funny".

The sooner kids learn that, the less likely they'll be to make an even more painful mistake later in life.

I'm no fan of the News because they close up shop at noon each day, but to say they never shed anything positive about Furman is not true. https://www.greenvilleonline.com/search ... 0Paladins/

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
