Yes it will come around and some on here will be hiding under the rock they from which they came. Some are true Furman fans, some divide.

This is the typical statement made every time we have a crap football season over the past 20 years, it never ends
The blind leading the blind it seems.................

No argument the offense is the worst that has ever put on the purple. Is the team worse than 2024? Consider in 2024 we lost to UTC by 31, WCU by 32 and MU by 26. Got embarrassed at Ole Miss, lost to Charleston Southern at home and was VMI’s only win. That was VMI’s last D1 win, they have now lost 22 in a row since. It is their only win in their last 30 games.
It is disappointing that after the 3-8 2024 season we were 6-6 in 2025 and now barring a stunning upset we are going to regress and finish 3-9 unless of course we end VMI’s losing streak.
Good post. We are better - WAY better on d ! / than 2024. We will beat VMI

We better not lose to VMI. Need someone else to take the “last D1 loss to VMI

I attended my 50th reunion at FU this weekend. It got off to a great start with beautiful weather and I shot my age at the Furman Golf Club on Thursday afternoon. Friday was great. Dinners out were great. Hanging out with my fraternity brothers was great. And then the football game....ugh.

CCH committed the cardinal sin which is losing a homecoming game in such a beautiful atmosphere to a team like Samford. Here are a few musings.

4 Players. If we had 3 All SoCon type offensive linemen and one more speedy receiver like E. James. That's all it would take. We already have the best defense in the SoCon. If we had better OL then we could run the ball which would open up the passing game. We could do it with the QB's we have.

What was the reason Garcia was put in game? Did Ackerly get yanked because he missed that wide open receiver in the end zone? Or was he injured? Clearly Garcia wasn't ready to play yet. I thought Smith looked good but don't understand trying to throw all the way to the end zone 2 times on the last possession. He had #6 standing there wide open at about the 10 or 15 yard line but he chose the longer thread the needle option that didn't work. IMHO Smith should still be the starter for the rest of the season.

I understand the calls for a head coaching change but I'm not in favor of that yet. We have 10 out of 11 starters and at least 4-6 good back up players on defense that will be back next year if they choose to do so. A coaching change could devastate that. On offense a few assistant changes might be necessary. Somehow they need to recruit some better players.

While I agree with everything you have said, at this point its just hard for me to put trust in Clay's ability to recruit the players needed to turn this around................

In the current environment I’d expect many of them to seek greener pastures. That’s not me being negative, it’s me looking at reality.

And your comment is very tactical. Clay is a very good coach. He’s proven it. If we want to be ok next year should stick with him. But if we want to get back to competing for SoCon Championships on a regular basis we need a LEADER, which I’m afraid Clay is not.

Since 2024 we are 11-20. The absolute best you can say about this season is that we have been close in every game. We had a bye week to get ready for Samford and produced an offensive performance that was just impossible to understand. In a different time in college football giving CCH an additional season to try and right the ship might be the right move.
For once I think Hoopla is making the correct analogy on what football needs in the current environment. CBR has driven the basketball program by not only doing a great job coaching but by selling his vision of the program and how it benefits the institution. He understands that fund raising is a key element in success. CCH has been a very good coach for a very long time but we are headed in so many ways in the wrong direction. The template on not just winning but establishing a program that can be sustained ( CBR is leaving some day) is IMO what we need in football.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
